Yeah, well, [censored] you too.

Good thing gaming is slowly but steadily migrating towards Linux, because this is just bull[censored].

It's been slowly but steadily migrating to Linux for 10+yrs now. Honestly at this rate full integration will happen in 2000 years.

You can't deny that Steam officially supporting Linux is a huge leap in that direction.

And honestly, no, I haven't seen it happening for such a long time. Sure, there's Wine, but I'm talking about developers actually making games for Linux, not Linux users using tricks to play games on Linux.

No, man, it's all about Mosaic. No, wait, Gopher. All I need is a text editor and a gopher client and I'm good, man.

I don't see the problem here. They don't want you making money off of something they own. Makes sense. Bethesda has sued people for the same infringement of their intellectual property.

This is really dumb. Trust Microsoft to be dumb.

A large part of the popularity of Microsoft games is due to things like Red vs Blue.

There goes most all of Microsoft's free game advertisemant. Good job Microsoft, good job.

Wow, that's so [censored] stupid. What a terrible mistake by microsoft and screw copyright laws they need to be changed, there is too much power with the owner.

there is too much power with the owner.

That's just it, Microsoft owns all the rights to their products (contrary to the belief that gamers have full ownership of the games they buy), and any threat they see to their company will be dealt with, even if it's a miniscule one at best. There's nothing you can do about it. They own them, and they will decide what people can and cannot do with them. Personally, I'm done sitting around on some internet forum getting upset about something that I have no power to change, so they can do whatever they want. I don't care. The only thing we people can do is vote with our wallets (and even that's futile without a large number of consumers participating), because no amount of [censored]ing in BGSF's CD is going to help.

I believe they said something along the lines of: We're okay with the likes of red vs blue, but videos titled [insert game title] are confusing to the consumer.

That's not what was said as I read it, albeit the wording wasn't concise IMO. What was said is you're allowed to use the title "red vs blue" in your video, but not, say, Halo

As I read his post he said "the likes of Red vs Blue" which would imply content similar to the content "Red vs Blue" aka, Machinima. This isn't said in the article. All the article says is the usage of the title "Red vs Blue" is allowed, not content similar to Red vs Blue.

Let me see if I get this correctly, no lets plays or halo montages are allowed anymore? Even if your YouTube channel makes no money and you don't profit, it's just an efame thing? Because I have halo and WoW videos and montages on my YouTube page with thousands of views, some with over 10k views, but I make no money from this at all. But even that's illegal now?

Apparently, yeah. Would be helpful to read the original rules, but apparently you can't post those videos on sites with advertisemant, or if you're making money from doing so.

1. There's nothing wrong if you're not profiting. That is expressively said in the article.

2. Do you think Google and Microsoft are the same company or just not know what "AKA" means?

It looks like Microsoft is trying to weaken Google again, but I think they're just shooting themselves in the foot. Google will simply disallow and ban videos of Microsoft products on YouTube which, let's face it, is where many of us go to learn about Microsoft products. Let's please not hype this up as NO MORE LET'S PLAYS ON YOUTUBE and remind ourselves that this is limited to Microsoft products.

Oh really? So Bethesda has sued the youtubers who have made famous Skyrim parodies then? We don't own the rights to Bethesda's engine nor their ideas such as Sheogorath or the Oblivion Crisis, but people use them all the time. Regardless, why is Microsoft even concerning themselves with this? All this will encourage is for PS3/PC creativity to flourish while the 360 will be stagnant. I paid full price for access to Skyrim, so I am entitled to use its resources in a fair way. Profiting off of the game itself is one thing, but to use the in game mechanics and make money off of advertisemant on original scripts is another. Of course RvB gets the exception. Bastards. They're only getting priviledged because they are already successful.

This in no way causes harm to anybody. Parodies get the word out of a product and benefits both the content creator and the owner of the property. Some games I've only heard of/played was because of the internet making fun of it.

I've never really been concerned with the Xbox 360 and what they do. I was annoyed that they decided to make the 360 a walking advert and even more so annoyed when I realised that youtube was massively stunted on the 360. That and the lack of titles to keep me interested really was the nail in the coffin for me in terms of playing a console. It's a silly move though just reeks of money grabbing, sadly not surprising with big companies. Only hope this moves a ton of people to PC/PS3 and Microsoft have to rethink this strategy. I'm not shocked by this though. From what I gather the next gen console will effectively be a DRM/Advert/Restriction filled mess. This is just the warm up.

Those same parodies actually drive me away from those games. I suppose I'm simply too serious for my own good, because those Skyrim and TF2 videos make me not want to play the games at all. Maybe I just can't stand people in general and that's my way of rebelling against them. And then I post on a forum full of them like the hypocrite I know that I am (though most people here are overly serious as well, so I feel more at home).
