His dad, however, had to ditch his plans to go, leaving his son there not able to get his copy. If my friend was to go with some friends that were 17 and older, could they get the game for him?

Probably. Unless they are super uptight about giving out the games, he/she should have no problem.

I know that in the UK, it is illegal to sell to anyone above the age requirement if they show intent to provide the product to someone under the age requirement.

lol my boyfriend went to go buy a game at gamestop once that he didn't meet the age requirement. But he had a mutual friend of ours who was, and the store clerk just looked at them and was like "Well, why don't you just have HIM buy it for you?"

XD They honestly don't care about rules, they just want their money.

if he just has someone use his receipt then it would be no problem as long as he doesnt say hes buying it for him

I don't know what it's like in the US but over here on the other side of the water. They can give you a fine of up to ￡5000 and sack the employee that sold the item, not to mention taking away the right to sell products of that type from the store. They are proper strict over here.
