Midnight Release Veterans

I've gone to quite a few the last being new vegas. Took me mabe 20-30 min in line to get my game after the clock struck 12. I'm going to get in line like 11. Personaly I recomend going early its fun just to hang out with people who enjoy the same thing and are just as nerdy and excited as we are. Kinda like being on this fourm in person.

As a non-GameStop employee... If you don't mind me saying you're very pretty! Anyways.... Here is my only question, can I or can I not show up at 11:30 11:45?

'Nother Gamestop employee chiming in! 11:30 should be fine. Only come earlier if you want a chance at a free poster or random swag.

lolz, THIS^

No anonymity left at a midnight release. You get to see what all these crazy people really look like and hopefully enjoy their company.

i dont get it. i paid in full this afternoon and ive got a receipt and phone number to prove it. whats the extra fuss about?

The finalized receipt is your place holder in line. Otherwise you could just waltz in ahead of everybody waiting in line at 12:00am and get your game.

I live in a city with a population of 800k, the night modern warfare 3 was released the lines formed at about 11pm, and once the game was legitimacy launched it took me 15 minuets to pay and leave the best buy.

There's still a final ring out that needs to happen so the computer thinks you "picked up the game." For some reason this final step can't happen until after technical closing time. So it's purely a computer issue. (As an employee I find this annoying, lol) They just can't physically hand you the game until 12 legally. The reason they do it early is just to get the line moving fast at the end there.

They just trade in your old receipt for a new one with a number on it. That number is your spot in line. Then you go in, show them your number, and they give you the game.

Do they give out Skyrim-related posters & stuff, or just totally random stuff?

Skyrim related stuff. I've been to a few midnight releases and the recent MW3 midnight release had MW3 related swag giveaways. They will have a raffle for skyrim posters/hats/shirts.

Posters is the most common, but sometimes the store manager gets something extra, like keychains or something on their own as a promotion. Sometimes Gamestop gets official swag (COD wallet/ Batman:AC shirts) but that's rare. My store is raffling off the display posters is the window, and a life-size stand-up of the Main Character. You can always ask your local store! Trust me, we don't want all this extra stuff in our back room, lol.

Edit: Yeah it's all Skyrim related!!!!

Oh man, I really wasn't planning on going to the midnight release since I won't actually be playing the game til I'm done with the semester, but now I'm tempted to go....is that stupid, to go to a midnight release just for the possibility of getting Skyrim swag? :spotted owl:

Just found out that some people I'm kinda friends with are going to be cosplaying. I sorta don't wanna go to the release now just to avoid an awkward moment with them. Does this make me a bad person?

If there's not I'll be seriously surprised, seeing as there was one for ME2 in my town. Individual stores probably won't know until late February tho.

Quick question, I preordered the game from GameStop online (ordered it for in-store pickup) a few weeks back. I just got the text about an hour ago saying to arrive at 10pm to finalize payment and pickup at 12:01AM.

I looked at my bank statement and I still havent been charged for the game... I'm a bit lost as this is my first time showing up to a midnight release. Will I be paying when I show up at 10pm? Do I have to bring anything with me? Help Dx

Gamestop never bills automatically for ANYTHING, you have to add money to your pre-order in person. You just have to pay by the time you pick up the game, so bring enough money to cover the rest of your game to the midnight release, and you'll be fine. :)

Bring enough to cover the rest? I haven't paid anything yet :( Should I have paid something in advance? I keep hearing about obtaining some kind of receipt and then waiting in line for the game. Is it: walk in, pay, take game? Or more to it than that? Sorry if this sounds stupid I just keep hearing different stories.

Wait, sorry I misread your original post.

Did you pay any money at all with your credit card?

Edit: It shouldn't have let you preorder online without at least SOME money down

I work at a Gamestop and how we do it is, is you come in during evening and we give you a finalized receipt and depending on if the company sends us merchandise, we give out raffle tickets and start giving people merchandise. At 12am the doors are open and you just stand in line and trade out your receipt for your game. As for what time you should go, I would just call the store and ask them what kind of a line they are expecting. They usually have a pretty good idea of how many copies they have paid off.

Seeing as you work there can you tell me what the "logic" is behind having TWO Gamestops in ONE mall? Seriously I can stand at one store look across & down the other side of the mall and see the other one...

O and outside of the mall on the other side of the street is TWO MORE Gamestops less than a 1/2 mile apart.... :banghead:

I have no idea how they all stay in business.

Edit: I just check through all my debit card transactions from the date I ordered til now, there is no charge from GameStop.

This will be my first midnight release. I live in a city with a pop of 180k and there are at least 4 midnight releases (all EB Games). What time do you think I should get there at?
The lines actually move pretty fast where I live. I would not recommend going early. Leave around 11:45 unless you want to stand in line for hours.
