Might be thinking about building a computer.

I've tried to find prebuilts that would suit my needs, but have had no luck. My parents keep trying to tell me not to build one, but it seems that is the only way to get a computer that will suit me. I need a few pointers before starting on seeing what will be best for me. How likely is it to get parts that turn out to be duds? How likely is it for parts to not work at all together?

If I am wanting parts that make very little noise, will this be a problem? Will there be heating issues? Will the computer be more prone to overheating? Do need a CPU cooler even if I don't plan to overclock? How do I know if a part has plated gold that won't be too harmed if touched?

If you wish to give me additional advice, please do so. I'm kind of worried about the whole handling the parts aspect due to how shaky I am all the time. Would it be best if I had a quad core or a CPU that wasn't quad core if I mainly play older games like the Thief games but still want to play current games?

I'm using PCPartPicker to help me out with seeing what will work for me. I just want to know how likely it is for things to go wrong in any way during the building process and buying process. I already have a USB Keyboard, but should I get a keyboard that doesn't use USB if those still exist? Do most mice have USB these days?

Sorry if these questions are getting a bit strange. I really don't want to screw up.
