Miscellaneous Items

Post » Mon Sep 24, 2012 4:02 am

I just came across a quest where I needed to collect a certain number of a particular miscellaneous item (keeping things vague so as to not spoil anything for anyone).

While the quest is a simple fetch quest, I found it interesting that it involved a miscellaneous item (miscellaneous items are items like charcoal, linen wraps, embalming tools etc.).

I hope that there will be more quests like this in the game as it would give more purpose to the many items that fill the world for seemingly atmospheric reasons only. I hope Bethesda will continue this trend in future games.

"And you'll need an offering. I think a lesser soul gem, a head of lettuce, and some yarn will do the trick."

Oh, yes, more uses for clutter items, couldn't agree more. As a quick example, wouldn't it be nice if you got to the gates of the College of Winterhold, and you weren't allowed in without a quill and some ink, because they are scholars, not axe wielding barbarians?

Yeah there are a lot of useless items in the game that I only take if I'm role playing. Even fetch quests that makes them worth something are appreciated

Some cool useless stuff you could keep include dwemer puzzle cube (or any of the thieves' guild unique things), a pair of really cool black skull keys, bugs in jar, soup spoon of ysgamor... You could make one hell of a collection (and extend game time) if you try to get all of these.

Some other things, pitifully, you cannot get. I would love to have the torc of labyrinth or toldir's alembic. They should just remove exclusive-quest item system; quests be damned, I want to break my own game whenever I want, however I want

I found a butterfly in a jar the other day, and it amazes me that after 300+ hours of gaming I'm still surprised by finding new things in what's in a relatively small game world. And being that I'm not a hardcoe gamer, I also appreciate the more simple find-and-fetch type quests.

It's always good to have a diversity of quests. And stumbling on something unexpected while randomly exploring is always fun.
