Missing in action, the locked door

Im getting crazy not drawing right conclusions of any text walktroughs over this quest

How can i even attemp persuade Idolaf’ when he refuse to talk? (even when im crowned Thane)

The only thing he can do if he is awake is to warn me, then attack if i dont leave (thats a pretty...direct bounty increase, as the guide refere it to)

So i killed him and took the Key to House Battle-Born, but thats not an item that can be used on northwest bedroom..as the guide somewhat suggest?

Overall...am i understanding it right?...that the only thing i can do to get further into this quest is to succesfully lockpick the bedroom door?

To bad that i cant learn the technique to not break the pick  so if theres no other way then i know i can skipp this quest

Idolaf wont talk to you because when you first met him, you must have told him you support the Gray-Manes.
According to the wiki, you can also confront Jon Battle-Born to get the info you need.
Also, are you on PC?

It's fairly easy. Just sneak in using a invisability potion and sneak out after picking the lock unseen while the older womans asleep.
The woman sees you sometimes, but it's just hired thugs she sends if you run off.
Nothing hard.
You can always use the Tower stone to pick the lock automatically.

I recall someone confronted me just as i entered the city first time, i guess it was him, i didn't answer him

With confront i have read i must pickpocket Jon...i somewhat doubt i will succeed with that..once i can relocate him in the city!
but im gonna try.

Yes im on PC

What? There is no womans in House Battle Born!..and i have hidden myself from Idolafin
in every corner of the house! anyway

I have not heard of any invisible potion...but it will not help me as long as the only way in is to lockpick

Cause it seems that Tower Stone encounter comes in my play future only, but i guess i can go back
and complete the quest....later

You can either attempt to persuade Idolaf into telling you about it or you can pickpocket the key from him. Go into house Battle-Born and take the letter from the locked room.

Alternatively, you can pickpocket either Olfina or Jon Battle-Born and take a note from either of them which tells about the affair they've been having together. Confront one Jon about the affair and he'll meet you later with the evidence you need.

Jon Battle-born leans against a post very near Belethor's store in the marketplace in Whiterun. You really can't miss him....

And he always talking about how people are obsessed with death... Sadly, he is correct..

I normally don't have a problem with this. A quick invisibility potion will do. I never got caught before.
