Mock Classes: Inspired ideas for some classes, just for fun!

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 1:05 pm

Due to Skyrims classless system, the sky has been the limit for us. Though sometimes, it’s fun to create classes to fit themes! Perhaps a new player may just feel over whelmed by all the choices and needs a starting point, or maybe someone is just feeling unsure of what the heck to make, and I’ll be lucky enough to have someone actually use on of my mock classes :P I do want to make it clear this is strictly for fun and a way to just share my ideas. Though I am not claiming to know all the inner mechanics of how this game works, whereas many fine folks here do, so if you're one of them, please leave your comments on what you'd improve and why, there's always room for improvement!

One thing to note though is that these classes are made to both fun, and challenging. As they fit specific archetypes or themes, some classes will have specific uses to a weapon or magic and they are denoted to the right of the perks in parenthesis. An example is the Thane which uses Destruction magic, but you will see it as; Destruction (Electricity based spells) this is saying this class is designed to use only those spells in the destruction school so as to fit its theme. Good news is it’s a game so you can tweak these classes all you’d like. So, without further blabbering!

Warrior Classes

  • The Paladin
Role
Tank
Attributes
Health and Stamina
Main Perks
Heavy Armor
One Handed (Sword or Mace, enchanted with fire damage or turn undead)
Block
Restoration
Other Perks
Smithing
Enchanting
Speech
Alteration
Guardian Stone
The Warrior OR The Lady OR The Lord

Mounted atop their steeds in full regalia shining brightly in the mid-day sun, Paladins embody all that is righteous and valiant. Warriors of justice and honor the Paladins seek out evil and uproot it. You can find a Paladin a devout follower of any of the Divine but many flock under the banner of Stendarr, the god of mercy and justice. Thee Paladins wear full sets of heavy armor and are equipped with shield and sword, or sometimes a mace. These weapons are usually enchanted to banish the undead and send them fleeing, or scorch their undead husks to ash. Masters of their craft, Paladins are not only walking fortresses behind all that metal, but they wield their weapons with deadly accuracy. In addition to this, many Paladins study extensively from the school of restoration. Providing healing magick to them and others while being able to put up strong defensive wards against the magick attack of necromancers and other evils.

  • The Vanguard
Role
Off Tank/ Damage
Attributes
Health and Stamina
Main Perks
Heavy Armor
Two Handed
Block
Alteration
Other Perks
Smithing
Enchanting
Speech
Alchemy
Guardian Stone
The Warrior OR The Lover OR The Lady

The Vanguard is the cousin to the Paladin in some ways. Vanguards are sentinels for the free living folk of the realm. They stand vigilant and defend them and their lands from all threats. Wearing heavy armor and wielding a fearsome two handed weapon, many a bandit flees at the site of a Vanguard in attack mode. Because they lack a shield they make up some of their defense by being studious followers of alteration magick to improve armor defenses. Whereas Paladins focus on restoration magick to heal and use wards, the Vanguard is more concerned with stopping his foe in his track, which occupies both hands. By using the spells of flesh, the Vaguard can then easily equip his weapon and let those who dare attack their homes, rue the day.

  • The Thane
Role
Damage
Attributes
Health and Magick
Main Perks
Heavy Armor
One Handed (War Axe, enchanted to lower magick or shock resist, or with shock damge)
Destruction (Electric spells)
Alteration
Other Perks
Smithing
Enchanting
Alchemy OR Restoration
Guardian Stone
(Depending if you focus more on magic or weapon) The Warrior OR The Mage OR The Lady OR The Lord

It is said to witness a Thane on the battlefield is to hear thunder and see lightning take form. Masters of the raw electrical power of the world, Thanes serve as conduits to blast foes with their electric power and follow it up with devastating melee attacks. They wear heavy armor as well and wield a sharp war axe, while their other hand is free to cast their destructive spells. Similar to the Vanguard, Thanes are concerned less with defense and more about dealing with their foe. Because Thanes wield an axe in one hand and magick in the other, they rely only on their armor for defense as they can not effectively block. Like the Vanguard they make up for this with flesh spells from the school of alteration. Should you ever get to meet a master Thane, be sure to get them on your side as they are truly a force to be reckoned with.

  • The Reaver
Role
Debuff/Damage
Attributes
Magicka and Stamina (or Health)
Main Perks
Heavy Armor
One Handed (Mace, enchanted with Stamina or Magick absorption)
Destruction (Vampiric Siphon)
Alchemy
Other Perks
Conjuration (Soul Capture)
Alteration
Enchanting
Lockpicking
Guardian Stone
The Lover OR The Lord OR The Serpent

If asked of those who have met Reavers what their thoughts on them are, they generally wish to not bring up the memory. Reavers deal in death and absolutes. Followers of the Daedric prince Molag Bal whose dominion is the enslavement of mortals, the purpose of the Reaver is to siphon living energy and enslave souls. They wear heavy armor and use enchanted maces to bludgeon and mangle their opponents while svcking away at their energy or magick. Though weak in defense the Reaver makes up for it with their staple spell, Vampiric Siphon which is a spell in the destruction school. This allows them to drain away the life force of their enemies and return it to them, while beating them without mercy at the same time. Many Reavers are also known to be master alchemists for they are said to poison their maces to add additional damage to their already twisted offense.

Mage Classes

  • The Istari
Role
Heavy long range damage
Attributes
Magicka and Stamina
Main Perks
Destruction
Restoration
Alchemy
Other Perks
Light Armor
Enchanting
Speech
Alteration
Guardian Stone
The Mage OR The Apprentice OR The Lord

The Istari are a reclusive type of character not seen by many. Most live as wanderers or take residence in their towers. Though estranged, most are friendly enough and will aid the weary traveler. But beware to NEVER raise the ire of one. For behind their eccentric exterior lies a ferocious power. Istari are masters at the destructive forces of magick, not to mention they are masters of restoration as well. With the use of wards and healing powers they can simultaneously attack with devastating force and protect themselves. Since most Istari wander or stay holed up in towers, they learn the flora and fauna very well and by virtue of this, are excellent alchemists. They typically wear no armor but there has on occasion been a report of an Istari wearing light armor for added protection. Though most Istari feel that restoration magic is defense enough, what we can be certain of is that tremendous power lies beneath those mysterious mages and that there is probably a reason why many leave the Istari to themselves.

  • The Sorcerer
Role
Control/Pets
Attributes
Magicka and Stamina
Main Perks
Conjuration (Familiars and Atronachs)
Illusion
Alteration
Other Perks
One Handed (Mace)
Speech
Enchanting
Alchemy
Guardian Stone
The Mage OR The Atronach OR The Lord

Oh, how enigmatic the Sorcerer is! Dangerous and volatile, charismatic and charming, deceitful and tricky, or tempered and wise, Sorcerers are a common type of magick user any traveler will find. Many live in cities, towns, or wander about. They can be court officials, a local merchant offering magical services or counsel, or could even be the ruling body of a small town. Though they come in all shape and sizes, those gifted enough should be respected, feared, or both. Unlike Istari, their magick is not based in raw power, but in more subtle means. Though not all Sorcerers may be students of the same schools, some of the best are those mastered in Illusion, Alteration and Conjuration. Though not the norm, some Sorcerers are seen using maces as a means to dispatch any straggling enemies, but usually the just let their ghostly familiars and atronachs do the hard work, while using the other schools to control and work their foes like a game of chess.

  • The Necromancer
Role
Pets/Damage
Attributes
Magicka and Stamina
Main Perks
Conjuration (Undead, Soul Capture)
Destruction (Fire or Ice)
Alteration
Other Perks
Enchanting
Alchemy
Lockpicking
Guardian Stone
The Mage OR The Ritual OR The Apprentice

The Necromancer is a reclusive and often aggressive type of magick user. Because their school of magick is almost universally shunned and ostracized, they themselves are usually very bitter and resentful to the ignorant, closed minded mages. Their school however tends to create a bloodlust of sorts within them, making even travelers at risk, for the Necromancer may see them as a fresh body to experiment on. Necromancers combine the powers of the Istari and Sorcerer in a twisted way, conjuring undead to do their bidding while blasting their enemies with raw power and using alteration magick to increase defense. Should you ever encounter a true, master Necromancer and live, be assured you will have nightmares for years to come.

Thief Classes

  • The Ranger
Role
Long Range and Melee damage
Attributes
Stamina and Health
Main Perks
Light Armor
Archery
Sneaking
Alteration (Lights, Detections, Water Breathing, Paralysis’)
Other Perks
One Handed (sword and dagger)
Alchemy
Smithing
Lock picking
Guardian Stone
The Thief OR The Lover OR The Serpent

”We were travelling the road to Markath when several men clad in worn leather and hoods appeared from nowhere. I immediately knew them to be rangers. Masters of the bow and stealth, these men looked like veterans." Rangers make their home outdoors. No one knows the hills and lands better than those who can be called Rangers. Very few enemies are ever given the opportunity to get close and personal to these masters of the bow and arrow. Rangers are tacticians as well, using traps to assist them in making sure any enemy sturdy enough to survive an arrow shot is slowed. Many Rangers study alteration magick to be able to see things others cannot, and carefully place their steps. Though, should any enemy get close, Rangers are efficient enough to quickly diminish what remaining fight they have with their blades.

  • The Scoundrel
Role
Damage/Control
Attributes
Stamina (or Health) and Magicka
Main Perks
Light Armor
One-Handed (Dual wield swords)
Illusion
Pick pocket
Speech
Other Perks
Sneaking
Lockpicking
Guardian Stone
The Thief OR The Lover OR The Steed

Suave and cunning, the Scoundrel is a devious sort. They are not above pride or honor if it means getting the job done, and more importantly, the payload. Scoundrels are avid and serious swordsmen who hone their ability to dual wield their weapons down to an art. This fighting style is a nice compliment to the easy and natural grace many Scoundrels have. Attributes one wouldn't normally associate with a Scoundrel, but it is those attributes that make them amazing sneaks and pickpockets. Always greedy and looking for next big shiny thing, always keep your coin purse close by when dealing with a Scoundrel. In addition to their fully offensive fighting style they use subtle illusion magick to confuse and disorient their enemies; because a drooling and confused target standing around is easier to hit than one moving about!

  • The Shadowblade
Role
Stealth/Dot and critical damage
Attributes
Health and Stamina
Main Perks
Light Armor
One Handed (dual wield daggers, always poisoned)
Alchemy
Sneaking
Alteration
Other Perks
Enchanting
Lock picking
Guardian Stone
The Thief OR The Shadow OR The Serpent

The Shadowblade is a dark and elusive character. If you are the target of a Shadowblade, best make peace now because you will not live to tell the tale of your encounter with one. Master Shadowblades kill before the enemy even knows they are there. They combine skills found in both the Ranger and Scoundrel and make use of them in a very precise and deadly way. Shadowblades dual wield daggers and specialize in backstabs and slicing throats. They wear light armor but move in it as if they wore nothing but cloth. Almost all Shadowblades are schooled in alchemy for they use potent and deadly poisons on their blades. Most are usually blades for hire, but you will find many in the service of Sithis and The Night Mother, while some others tend to follow Boethiah, Daedric Prince of deceit, conspiracy, secret plots of murder, assassination, and treason. Some of the most famous of Shadowblades make full use of alteration magick, because like Rangers, the Shadowblade uses this school of magick to aid in their stealth, seeing things other would be "assassins" could not, allowing them to pick out their targets tactic fully and precisely.

Hybrid/Experimental

  • The Berserker
Role
Damage
Attributes
Health and Stamina
Main Perks
Light Armor
One Handed (dual wield axes)
OR
Two Handed
Alteration
Other Perks
Heavy Armor
Archery
Smithing
Enchanting
Guardian Stone
The Warrior OR The Lover OR The Lady

The Berserker has a simple cause: annihilate the opposition. Because of this, they have few disciplines, but the ones they do have they practice intensely and hone it to a fine point. Berserkers can be seen wielding two war axes or a massive two handed one. They generally wear light armor for some good protection as it is also light enough so as to not impede on their rampage. It is also not uncommon for Berserkers to use alteration magick, specifically for the spells of flesh that offer higher armor defenses, allowing the Berserker to last even longer on the field to tear his enemies asunder.

  • The Mystic Warrior
Role
Off Tank/Damage
Attributes
Magicka and Stamina
Main Perks
Heavy Armor
Conjuration (Summoned Weapons)
Block
Illusion
Other Perks
Alchemy
Restoration
Enchanting
Smithing
Guardian Stones
The Mage OR The Warrior OR The Atronach OR The Lady

The Mystic Warrior is a long forgotten and ancient discipline that few people today follow, let alone know about. The Mystic Warrior is a heavy armor wearing champion who carries no physical weapon other than their shield, but rather summons all of their weapons right before a battle or when needed. Focusing solely on the summoning of weapons in the school of conjuration, Mystic Warriors do carry physical shields to reflect blows and stagger their enemies while being able to summon various weapons for changing situations in battle. Alongside their ability to summon, they also use illusion magick to aid in them.

Smithing my own weapons takes away the fun of master for me since you end up doing hundreds of damage, but thanks for the ideas.

I'm glad you all like it! It took me awhile to make up but totally worth it to get those ideas out. I personally like the Reaver (though challenging to play), Vanguard and Thane. The Mystic Warrior I have yet to make but seems like it could be a lot of fun as well.

I'm using the paladin already except I use the steed stone because I just love running around at full speed and saves me a few perks to put into other areas. Awesome class archetypes I feel like trying out the

ranger and necromancer now. Necromancers from Diablo 2 army of walking skeletons? alas only 2 at a time...

I love these ideas, and the descriptions are really nice. My character seems to be a lot like the Ranger, except he doesn't use Alteration, but I think he might start.

Eh, I've been mostly going by the old-styled Sorcerer from Morrowind/Oblivion, that is

"Though spellcasters by vocation, sorcerers rely most on summonings and enchantments. They are greedy for magic scrolls, rings, armor and weapons, and commanding undead and Daedric servants gratifies their egos." From Morrowind and

"Besting the most well-equipped fighters, they rely on the spells of the mystic arts. Unique to these mages is the bodily stamina to be armed with the thickest armor." From Oblivion

Conjuration
Heavy Armor
One-Handed Weapons

With some additional perks in Enchanting and Restoration

Very cool! I never played much of pure magick users, but it's interesting to see the differences between the two and I guess mine. Though ironically enough I focused on summoning for the Sorcerer and it seems in Morrowinds version, that was their main schtick too

Thanks for this great post OP! I can see a lot of thought and creativity went into it, not to mention that the character descriptions are well-written. Hats off to you sir. Most of all, I'm thankful because you've finally given me an idea for what character I'd like to make! Inspired by your ranger:

A (Nord) Ranger...

Main Perks

Archery
Light Armour

Other Perks

One-Handed (Dual Wielding)
Sneak
Smithing (Light Armour up to Dragon)
Alchemy

You'll notice my only change was to avoid perking alteration. Using alteration spells fits the character well and therefore has a certain RP purpose, but the perks in that school are not very helpful. I think the increased magic resistance isn't worth it. Furthermore, levelling up should focus on health and stamina, the magicka should be an afterthought in my opinion.

PS: A Bosmer might suit this model better, but I wanted a Nord. Aragorn comes to mind :)

Thanks a lot OP for a great post!

What is this strength stat you keep raising?

The Mystic Assassin
Role
Stealth Melee Damage and Scouting

Attributes
Magicka and Stamina

Main Perks
Stealth
Illusion
Alteration

Other Perks
One Handed
Smithing
Enchanting
Pick Pocket

Guardian Stones
The Shadow

The Mystic Assassin is a killer who is impossible to know. He dresses in common every day clothing while wearing a simple easy to hide dagger and he looks no different from any other peaceful traveler. When he has a mark though, he is a master of the stealthy kill. A target almost never lives longer then a single strike. He is a practiced in both stealth and illusions. He takes extreme care of his weapon because the first hit kill is everything to him, but even in a worst case scenario he can summon powerful defensive spells to protect him. With his ability to sneak around or become invisible invisible while tracking the locations of all living or undead things with magic he is almost never seen though unless he wants to be. No one knows what he looks like or his name. The only evidence ever left behind of his very existence is a corpse.

I'm so glad you like it! I agree with you on Magick as an afterthought so I changed it. I use Illusion as a main perk, because my version of the Ranger is slightly magic based just in the sense for it to augment their natural ability to track and and navigate. With the light spells for dark places, Detection of life signs through walls, water breathing or extended holding of your breath lol, and paralysis all would aid in the overall theme of my Ranger. But none the less, I am grateful you were inspired even somewhat, so thank you!

My Nord Ranger is very similar as well.

Main Perks

1. Two Handed (greatswords)
2. Light Armor
3. Archery

Secondary Perks

1. Sneak
2. Blacksmithing
3. Block

I didn't like having 0 defense while dual wielding, so I opted for the two-hander which allows me to parry/block. Aragorn inspired like your ranger Phylosopher, but my ranger is female :hubbahubba:
