UI mod to add action bars?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 6:34 am

Tried searching through the forums here and in general google searches but cannot find any thread on this.

Maybe it is too early to say since the Construction Kit isn't out yet, but if somebody know it will be on these forums. :foodndrink:

I know there is a Favorites menu where one could assign hotkeys to 8 items, but that is hardly enough. Would it be possible to make a mod that adds action bars? The more the better. What I'm talking about is something similar to the action bars MMOs use - say 4 action bars with 10 buttons each will be great. They can be mouse-clickable or maybe even assign action bar 1 hotkeys to 1-0, bar 2 to CTL+1-0, Bar 3 to Shift+1-0, and bar 4 to Alt+1-0.

Maybe it can be made so that it would allow for saving all currently equipped gear to 1 button, so one could switch from adventure gear to smithing/enchanting/alchemy gear with a button click.

Having to go through a bunch of menus every time you want to switch a weapon, or use one of a myriad of skills is pretty ridiculous. :shakehead:

I think people did this with Oblivion, and Fallout, so I'm sure it will be possible with Skyrim. However, I'm not sure if it can be done without the Creative Kit. I want to say no, but I'm really not sure.

I suppose it is theoretically possible to mod the UI to that bars appear at the bottom of your screen which show all 8 items you have hotkeyed in your favorites menu. Using basic icons like the icon pack on SkyrimNexus you could probably have a general idea of what you were seeing on your bar.. But to be honest, it wouldn't really fit Skyrim..

Given that the UI is coded in some version of Flash (and what I know about Flash coding outside of the theoretical layer is functionally nil) it SHOULD be possible. Practical is another matter.

I'd love something like this, maybe just with small icons, even though i'm not an MMO person. Orientation would be easier for me i think. In the end, i'd prefer it over text-based favourites a thousand times.
