Mod authors being neg-repped for not fulfilling requests

Post » Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:53 pm

I've noticed a disturbing trend recently on the Skyrim Nexus - mod authors are being negative-repped when they decide not to make a change to their mod as suggested on the mod comments.

I'd like to encourage people to support mod authors they see being neg-repped as a result of not being bullied into making changes they don't agree with.

Most recently, JustinOther's "More Interactive Items" has come under assault as he is unwilling to enable NMM download - so many of his posts are being neg-repped just on the basis of this.

I posted a polite comment of support while at the same time explaining how people can download manually and still use NMM to install. Inevitably I immediately received 2 neg-reps.

If you agree with the right of a mod author to release a mod in the way they best see fit, please support Justin by positive-repping his neg-repped posts at http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3562.

Modders take their own free time to create mods and and release them for us all to enjoy for free. So to me, down repping them for pretty much anything is weak.

I agree with this. I try to take requests and suggestions into account, I welcome the input, but at the end of the day I'll make my mod the way I envision it should be :)

If you really want to fix this, I suggest posting on Nexus forums and requesting that the up/down buttons will be removed from posts made by mod's author. It makes sense, so I see no reason why they wouldn't implement it as long as it gets enough support (aside from being busy fixing the site).

Thanks for the info, I like Justin and use one of his mods (maybe more actually). So I threw my 2 e cents in by plus repping all his posts, not that it'd really do any good I suppose, just trying to support a modder since I have a ton of respect for them.

Oh, now why am I not surprised to find who the leader of the pack is as far as this sea of red (which apparently turned green already). None other than the same guy who decided to come after me for not bending to his demands about my own mod. Dude's a troll and his comments need to be reported as such. He needs to be banned, not battled.

For what it's worth, when you check the checkbox "Enable comments", you are opening yourself up to criticism. Feedback goes both ways. Of course, people should respect an author's wishes, or at the very least try to empathize with the author as to why the decision was made.

That being said, if the system seems to be being abused, the report button should be used without prejudice.

I could really care less about ratings. Viconia stands on her own.
