Mod breaks when loading a save from gameplay.

Hey guys, so I just found a bug with my mod which is pretty bad :(

My Mod:
It makes racial powers autocast: It changesd the original power into a constant effect ability.

Ability > MAgic effect (sript) > spell >magic effect (power)

My Problem:
I have loaded into gameplay for my character Jimbob. After playing for ten minute I realise I have totaly messed up so I load a previous save for Jimbob from within the game (aka I did not return to the main menu).

When I load into the game again, the mod breaks, the ability no longer shows up in my magic effects like it had previously.


The reason why this is realy bad is because this issue occurs when loading to a previous location after death!

Anyone got any ideas on what might be causing this?

  • Whether returning to main menu or not, should not make a difference (you found a new bug, if that does make a difference!!)

When you first played, did you start with the same saved game that gave you problems when you did the reload? (Or did you use a different saved game, or a new game?)


On first reading, it appears something in your mod is not save-game-compatible (which is quite common) ... but on second read I am not so sure.

This issue only occurs when loading into a savegame of the same character from gameplay.

Returning to the main menu and loading the save from there works fine. Loading other character saves from within gameplay works fine. It is literaly the above scenario only which causes the mod to break. I am guessing it is somethig to do with the way the game re-initialises assets on that type of load?

I have never seen anyone else report this.

Loading saved game from Main Menu, or from inside the world when already playing a save - As far as I know there is no difference.

I can't see how your mod could be having an effect on that ... but I also don't really see how it is a bug in the game (or there would be lots of other similar reports)

I've no idea what's going on with your testing.

This is frustrating. :(

I have a constant effect ability which has a scripted magic effect applied to it. This effect will cast spells on events (such as onHit).

When I load character A from the main menu, all is well.
When I return to the menu and re-load character A, all is well.
When I load character B from gameplay on character A, all is well.
When I load character A from gameplay on Character A, Issue occurs.
When I load character B from gameplay on Character B, Issue occurs.
When I die as character A and laod back to a previous point, Issue occurs.

The issue is simply that the ability no longer appears in the active magic effects and the magic effect applied to it no longer functions.
Once broken, the player then needs to return the main menu and load back in to resolve the problem.

It is just a pain because this issue will 100% be encountered during the death > previous spawn point flow.

Ok so whatever the problem is- it is not a script. It is something inherent to the powers which I ahve turned into abilities. still clueless but investigating further.

This is not a problen in your mod. When you load a saved game from gameplay, not all paramethers are resetted, so, you will end up with a mix between both gameplays. This is the easiest way to obtain a corrupted file since Oblivion (maybe since Morrowind). I had even see contaners dissapear doing this (23 containers in a single cell, not even attached to the one the save was made in).

In other words, your mod falls apart when everithing else does. No issue.

First time I have seen this issue raised. Have I just missed it - and everyone else is aware of this? Or, does it need sticking in the BUG Post (whether bug or intended feature) just so there's a record of it?

might be wroth noting somewhere that this type of scenario might lead to issues with some mods. Not everyone will have the same problem as me, but if its a high risk area that will need testing around then modders should know (especialy complex mods!)
