A mod to give candlelightlightsource permanently?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 8:39 pm

Without turning your brightness up to much, the game is simply too dark in many corners n places while in dungeons, is there a possibility of a mod to brighten things up?

A permanent Candlelight spell would be wonderful.

I was about to suggest the opposite, haha (removing the ambient light in dungeons).
I've always felt the game is way too bright and torches are absolutely unnecessary. I guess it differs between monitors.

When it's too dark for me, I use a torch. But it's rarely too dark, as the game is rather bright, even in 'dark' dungeons.

There is a brightness slider, iirc.

The game already is too bright. I can see my hands at night when I'm in the middle of the wilderness and no moon is out.

I've never had to use a torch seriously so far.

I'd love to see a true night mod.

You can add the Khajit's racial power, Night Eye, as I explained in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1264365-how-to-add-racial-powers/page__view__findpost__p__19206641. You can use it as much as you want (not just once a day). Each use lasts for 60 seconds, and you can press the Z key again to turn it off prematurely.

There are a few spells that light up rooms. One casts a little ball of light floats above you for like 60 seconds. You can use a torch as well.

Edit
The spell is actually called candlelight too.

Nothing will happen until the CK is released, but I'd like to see Candlelight become a toggle, rather than a duration... perhaps "reserving" a small amount of magicka for balance.

Right, I use it constantly while in dungeons, I just wish I could keep it up at all times if i choose, I duel wield destruction and lets be honest, the menu system is terrible, 5 clicks later I'm back to my duel wield spells.

As Ishmael said, this sort of tweaking won't happen until Bethesda releases the Creation Kit. If it's anything like the Construction Set, then simply increasing the duration of the spell would be extremely easy. One would only have to modify a value or two. A toggle may be harder depending on how the game works with things like that, but I'm sure it won't be overly difficult.

Perhaps there's a way to enchant a ring or amulet to give you candlelight when it's equipped. Only time will tell.

Oh yeah? Run this command in the console:

PlayerEnchantObject 877B1 1EA6C

This gives you a Silver Ruby Ring with permanent Candlelight. The description says the light lasts for 0 seconds, but I tested it for at least a minute, and other enchantments made with this command appear to last indefinitely as well.

You can use any object ID for the first parameter, and you can add a second magic effect (MGEF records when using the console "help" command) ID as well.

Edit: Replaced "enchantment ID" with "magic effect ID".
