Modern Re-Release

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 11:22 am

I know that this must have been said over and over again, but...
how about a modern re-release of Arx (In HD of course) to spark interest and verify for the "powers that be" that a new Arx game would be lucrative?
So many companies are making "HD" re-releases to re-invigorate sales of old franchises that not to do this for Arx would be silly.
If it did well, It would give any producer ammo for a new project. Hey, entertainment for us, jobs for you....

When the source code for a game is released this generally means the developer is handing over future production to the public under GPL terms. This however only confounds the issue as "private" means independent of a bona fide game publisher to aggressively market the new game.

It would be nice to have a rehashed AF, but this will just not happen... More so since the IP is nearly 10 years young without any sequel. And seriously, the game is gold as is. I would rather have Arkane focus on Dishonored, get that IP fully supported, and then give us a sequel to Arx Fatalis.

Agreed. I think a sequel to Arx Fatalis would be better than a remake. I'd also be happy with a spiritual sequel if Arkane isn't interested in revisiting the Arx setting.

Truth be told, I think what became Dark Messiah was initially Arx 2. And indeed if you look at some things in DM they are obviously tributes and nods at the previous game. So that's a spiritual successor of a sort. But I'd be really excited if they do Arx 2. Hopefully Dishonored will do well. I believe they also have a second unannounced title in development, so you never know :)

To be accurate, Arx 2 was the project pitched to Ubisoft that led them to sign off Dark Messiah with Arkane. But in the end DMoMM was far from the original design pitched for Arx 2. ;)

Wow, I never knew that. Thank you very much for shedding some light on this. Curse you UBI!!! Why didn't they pick up Arx 2? Oh well, hopefully Dishonored does excellent, so that the possibility of seeing Arx 2 appears on the horizon again :)

On a bit of a unrelated note, whatever happened to The Crossing?
