MODs being used by save file

Post » Thu Nov 29, 2012 3:00 am

Ok, I did something stupid. I decided to remove several mods I was not using anymore (about 30 or so) in order to "clean up" my game a little bit. I found out the hard way that scripts remain in save files after you remove them. Obviously, this means the game crashes every time I load now. The easy fix is to re-install the mods from the save file but in my stupidity, I never wrote down what mods they were. I know this is a long shot (probably gonna receive an answer of "impossible" from you all) but I figured I would at least ask. Is there any way to determine what mods were in use by a save file? All mods in use are from Steam Workshop so maybe there is a "history" recorded somewhere in Steam? Thanks for your time..

Wrye Bash shows dependencies, but I don't think it shows them for Steam mods. I don't use Steam workshop, so someone else will have to answer that part.

Note that even re-installing may not correct your problem, though, because the mods will reinitialize and may conflict with whatever is stored.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1840 will tell you that info in the http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/364/skyrimwb.jpg tab, regardless of what you've been using to install the mods.

Hmm. Might be way too obvious, but shouldn't deleted data-files go to your trash-bin? Would you be able to recover them from there, thus eliminating the need to figure out which mods you used, as every mod's data files you deleted are right there, just waiting to be recovered or removed forever?

Perhaps it's not as easy as that though.
