Moment of truth PC users how well is this game OPTIMIZED?

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 7:15 pm

What ive read so far doesnt seem TOO bad but not too good either. People with 580's and 570's (aussies obviously) said that the fps bounce all over the place anywhere from 35-60fps. Most of us dont have that kind of hardware so people with mainstream cards such as 6850/6870 and 460/560 will NOT be able to max the game out and get 50-60fps. So what kind of fps are you guys getting and and what settings?

I haven't read anything about how the game fairs on AMD cards as of yet, I'll let you know how well it plays on a 6950 later tonight. Anything I read with bouncy frames seems to be associated with Nvidia.

I too have AMD cards. When I actually get my hands on the game, I'll be sure to chime in.

Yeah, the optimization may bother me more than anything else, if it seems poor. I'm on a 590 and I'll get to see what it's like in about 9 hours.

I expect the FPS to bounce around some, seems to be the nature of large scale RPG type games much of the time, but if it's anything like FNV was/could be at it's release, I'll be frowning a bit. I don't need uber frame rates but I do like smooth gameplay that doesn't grind to halt just because I'm standing in one particular town.

This is a bad port, they promised us a good port with better textures then the xbox 360 version, i can't get a stable 60 FPS with 580 gtx, it drops to 30 and goes up, i hope they gonna fix it.. can't enjoy playing the game like that.

Well, my specs are in my signature, and I'll find out tonight when Skyrim releases.

As long as I get 30 I'm fine with it, though 60 has that extra crisp sense of solid reality, but at least it's not choppy at 30.

Assuming the Creation Engine is anything like the Gamebryo Engine, (And it is.) GPU is not the end all be all.

I OC'd my I7 950 from 3.07GHz to 4.2GHz and Fallout 3/NV and Oblivion all got a minimum of 15+ FPS. I don't even need to use my dual 5870's to maintain 60+ FPS 99.9% of the time.

GPU isn't the end all/major deciding factor here, nope....but to some it is annoying when you're cruising along at 60+fps, enter an area (like Khan's town in FNV) and have it chunk down to 15-20 (for more than a second or three) for seemingly no reason.

I have an i5 2500k, HD 6970 and all settings on max the game runs flawless. Granted I only had about 30 mins to play before work but I ran at 60 FPS minimum @1080p all settings maxed. This includes all the fades and draw distance.

So I think it is probably one of the best optimized games Beth has made..then again my system is not old..it's a beast...so... not sure how well it is optimized on older machines.

Not being LAA out of the box pretty much answers that question. Mabe 2 years ago I could let that slide but not now.

The game performs better than Oblivion with more advanced graphic effects and larger environments. It's definitely optimized.

6870 here, all ultra but medium shadows @ 1080p, mostly 60fps, some dips in towns.

I have a 560 Ti, run ultra settings, and get 60fps most everywhere.....it drops to 45ish in some odd places sometimes, but mostly it runs fine.

Wow, epic bump. I don't know the FPS, but on a single 6870 with everything on ultra, I get no visible lag. Most of the horsepower comes from the CPU for this game, not the GPU.

Very optimized. This is surprising, because I remember how performance-intensive Oblivion was when it came out.

Full Ultra High Quality settings and this game runs perfectly; no stutter or lag at all; no noticeable FPS drops at all. And this is on a machine whose hardware hasn't been upgraded for three years: Radeon HD 4870 X2, Phenom II X4 940 3.00Ghz, 4GB of RAM. Nothing is overclocked or anything. I haven't seen such an optimized game for the past half a decade. I use a CPU/RAM monitor widget on my secondary display, and it never even hits 50% usage, with Firefox and Steam running. Even older games do not run as great as Skyrim does, so I am very impressed.

i5-760 and gtx570, both at factory clock. I'm not sure about fos, but the game runs smoothly on ultra settings. GPU is 25-30c over ambient.

I think it's fairly well optimized, we can't say it is perfect since there are some problems in-game where you look at certain spots and the framerate tends to drop 10 - 20 frames (so Diab64 is probably lying). I have a 3 - 4 year old pc with the following specs:

e8400 3.00 ghz, oc to 3.6 ghz
ati radeon 4850HD 512 MB
4 Gig ram, but only can use 3.5 gig

Game runs on:

1680 x 1050 resolution (native)
2 x AA
8 x ASF

every other setting on ultra and shadows on medium, plus I tweaked the shadow distance a bit to 2000. I am running the game with 50 fps average and some dips to 30-40 in some towns (the Fallout syndrome). So if your pc specs are quite low, like mine, you are still very much ok.

I am getting between 30-60 average about 50. I have 2XAA, 12XAF, texture high, shadow high, decal high, blur low, with water everything ticked said for reflex sky, Just about everything in view distance at the right side said for the grass is at the left with medium on distant view detail. For I the game is running fine. Look below for my pc specs.

Just as an FYI, Skyrim will only use 2 processors... Those other two on that Phenom 940 aren't firing, hence the 50% max usage. I have a 965 BE Phenom and I love it... But to really max out settings and get good FPS you need an Intel sandy bridge processor... Though the 965 does a decent job for (especially considering how much cheaper they are compared to Intel chips).

Perfectly optimized. GF 8800 GT 512 Mb + 2Gb ram (~4-5 years old stuff!). Runs pretty smoothly on medium/high.

2.2ghz Dual Core, e4500 Intel, 250 GTS Nvidia 1GB, 3GB DDR2 Ram. Runs on default high with FXAA on 1280x1024, with enabled tree and land shadows through ini.

Getting about ~ perfect (60) fps in any interior cell that is not epicly huge (Blackreach, Labyrinthian etc.). Otherwise it goes between 30 and 60, generally i don't notice it, and i didn't expect more. Sometimes FPS can drop down to 20, but that's really really rare.

Cities i have about 10 fps when i enter, until it loads up, then it's usually about 30fps, give or take. Cities are the major FPS hit, with that many actors on screen. If i reduce actor distance I get much better fps but i can't see enemy archers, so i keep it at this level.

Overall, for a very crappy CPU by todays standards, and some slow memory, this game is running pretty damn good.

What's optimized mean? :P

i7 2600k
2GB GTX560 Ti x 2 in SLI
16GB RAM 1600mhz
240GB SSD

Battlefield 3 on Ultra with transparency runs at 60fps constantly, even under the most stressful situations.
Skyrim occasionally hits 60fps outdoors, averages 50fps. Sits between 30-40fps in cities. Transparency AA is a big no-no if I don't want a slide show, especially since framerate also affects vertical mouse speed.
Appalling design for the PC, but phenomenally awesome game.
