[ReqHelp] More Clothing

I've recently hit a snag while playing Skyrim. Using the More Hotkeys Please mod has made setting whole outfits worth doing, so I decided to switch between full armour and clothing when in and out of town. Up untill now I've been using the Roughspun Tunic and now that I've reached Solitude I decided it might be time to get some decent clothes. The problem is, there are none. Or at least, none that suit the style I'm looking for. To me it seems the only options are rags, or many skirts and dresses whereas all I'm after is something a little more... basic (for lack of a better word).

I had a look around the Nexus and the majority of clothing mods are for females only and even then are some variety of bikini or lingerie (although there are a few good female outfits, I'm playing a male character).

I had a go at creating an outfit similar to the http://pds.exblog.jp/pds/1/201101/24/10/b0178210_23493251.jpg from Oblivion, but my modeling skills are virtually non-existent. I haven't gotten the mesh working in game, so I haven't even attempted to texture it yet, but here are some shots of what I'd attempted:

What I did here was take the upper body from farmclothes04 and the pants from the barkeep mesh and delete the lower portion and buckles of the farmclothes04 jacket and create a notch along the seam. Then tried to extrude it in and up inside the body, which is where I think it got messy. This mesh was just black in game and according to a tutorial I was following vertex colours affects this, but changing it did nothing.

This was designed to be simpler. Instead of removing a portion of the jacket, I decided to rescale it, meaning I wouldn't have to create new polygons. I also decided not to create the notch in the front for simplicity. I haven't tried this one in game yet, but I have a feeling I would get the same result. I'm also less impressed with the way this one turned out. Not that I was happy with the first attempt. Athough it has more detail, it's quite obvious that it was done by someone who has no idea what they're doing.

Now, I'm not asking someone to do my dirty work for me and remake this mesh (although if there is someone who thinks they could actually achieve this, I'd be eternally greatful) I am hoping to find others who are interested in adding more clothing to Skyrim. Maybe there is someone with actual talent working on something similar, or maybe this gave someone some ideas. The Quilted Doublet I'm working on is merely a personal preference (the character I'm playing now is a descendant of one of my Oblivion characters, who wore this outfit, so it seemed like a good idea. The design of it is also fairly simple so it seemed like it would be quite easy to do... turns out I was wrong) but any new outfits that fit into the Skyrim lore that aren't either skimpy or overly extravagant that could be distributed throughout Skyrim would be pretty damn amazing.
