More Dishonored on the Way - DLC news

Post » Sat Oct 27, 2012 2:28 am

This is what greeted me this morning on the gamesas blog (http://www.bethblog.com/)

Great news to wake up to

Finish Dishonored, already? Completed a non-lethal playthrough, too? Congrats on being a true supernatural assassin! We recommend you continue honing your skills in preparation for the game’s upcoming game add-on content, Dunwall City Trials.

Dunwall City Trials will arrive simultaneously on PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360. Details on this add-on, as well as future plans, are outlined below:

Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials, being released in December for $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points), will include 10 challenge maps that will test and track your combat, stealth and mobility skills. Ten distinct trials await challengers – including an arena battle against waves of enemy AI, a gravity-defying run of drop assassinations, and a race against the clock. Dunwall City Trials also features a whole new set of achievements and trophies as well as a global online leaderboard that will establish the greatest assassins for each challenge.

The second and third add-ons for Dishonored will be coming in 2013 and will each feature story-driven campaigns. Pricing on these two packs will be revealed closer to launch.

Daud, the leader of a group of supernatural assassins known as ‘The Whalers’, will be the focus of the second add-on pack, scheduled for release in early Spring 2013. Make your way through new Dunwall locales and discover Daud’s own set of weapons, powers and gadgets in this story-driven campaign. How you play and the choices you make will impact the final outcome…

Additional story details on the third add-on pack will be revealed closer to its launch next year.

Stay tuned for more details.

Very cool :)

Guess I will play the first DLC a lot to become the very best on the online leaderboard :P

Look forward to the second and third DLC more though, meaty single player missions are great ^_^

Cool - but I think I didn′t buy them, because I′m not a big friend of challenges like this. I prefer a story driven campaign with new missions, not just challenges.
As they said in the blog this will come with the next two expansions.

Yes.... I'd be more looking forward to the story-driven single player campaign with new powers and weapons, but hey, it's
good too know it's coming :goodjob:

I am a little sceptical about the whole Daud-thing. Playing him seems to give off a "wrong vibe" in my ears,
because of his role in Dishonored all in all.
I have my faith in Arkane still, and I hope they'll prove me somewhat wrong though!

Great great new! Thanks Arkane! It would still be great if we could create our own Challenges and share with the steam workshop or something like that. Just imagine! the game would have endless replayability! just giving suggestions here. I also really like the Idea of controlling Daud, great initiative.

Sounds cool, I'm more interested in additional story-driven content than challenges and arenas, but it's good to know Arkane and Bethesda have solid plans on additional content releases.

spoilers related to Daud, not really any major spoilers, most of it is stuff you might not even notice after having played through, but this is the spoiler free section so spoiler tags.
Spoiler
Daud didn't start out like he is now. Daud had a similar beginning as corvo. and in many ways may reflect what corvo may become down the line. Daud was granted power by the outsider, it seems like Daud may of at one time had a purpose (much like how corvo wants to get rid of those responsible for conspiring against the empress) but then after losing that purpose (much like how corvo killed all conspirators at the end of the game, and now he has no real purpose anymore) he eventually turned into the assassin we know him as. So really Daud is no different then Corvo, and Dauds DLC is likely his origin story. We will find out how he got his powers, and what exactly his fought for with his powers.

I'm not so sure we'll be playing Daud as much as we'll become more involved in his story through our own play.

What the [censored]? Why is there just an assumption that they're going to be pumping out [censored] pay-for "extra" content? Games were [censored] fine without it for decades, and now morons can't spend their money fast enough after they already paid more for the game from the beginning. I didn't see anybody begging for Deus Ex to have DLC. Or Thief. Or System Shock.

You guys are pathetic.

What's wrong with more content? I'm pretty sure a lot of people wanted more content when they played those games and others. I know I did, and back then only to get more was with sequels (or modders). Now we can get official expansions and DLC. And why wouldn't we have to pay for it? They are doing their job and making a game, adding more content still requires them to work, if you can't (or don't want to) pay an extra $5 then don't noone is forcing you to pay for anything.

Also this isn't an assumption this thread is announcing that there will be DLC.

Regarding DLC arguments, it helps to remember that DLC is just a neutral medium. It's not inherently good or bad, right or wrong; it's a matter of how a given developer or publisher handles their DLC, not whether or not they release any. Yes, back in the day when we ran games from five-and-a-quarter-inch floppy disks, we didn't have DLC because we had no Internet or other framework for delivering content remotely. That didn't make that model inherently better, just older. With the advent of (gasp!) hard drives and the move to high-tech three-and-a-half-inch diskettes (and then CD-ROMs, then DVD-ROMs), we had additional paid content add-ons, but they were called "expansions." Same principle at work. Expansions weren't inherently good or bad, but some expansions added tons of fantastic content, polished the base game, and came with a great pricetag. Other expansions didn't do much and cost more, so those were bad expansions. The same holds true for DLC today.

I really hope the arena is not just barren land. I hope for more of a crowded like warehouse with the waves of enemies. So there will hopefully be things to climb, slide under, run around, break, throw, etc. Not just brutal melee combat in a field.
