More Kinect Commands Needed

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 7:44 am

Hi all, it has been a while since I've been on here so I will just jump straight into it!

I'm doing a playthrough using the kinect and I am actually having a blast, it's real fun but something came to mind. we really need more commands.

For example you can't assign a "make enemies flee from battle" spell or a "rally" spell. Being able to assign a rune spell would also work wonders.

I think assigning scrolls would also be quite useful epsecially to those that have a lot of the same scrolls that they have aquired. For me the master level spells are a wee bit expensive to cast so i save up on master destruction scrolls. same could be said for most master spells in the game.

minor dragonborn spoilers relating to spells:
Spoiler
Also with dragonborn comes new spells such as: ash spells, a new poison spell and a new form of scrolls (spiders).
I think being able to assign an ash spell would be nice.

New follower commands would be welcome to. I really liked being able to point at an object and tell my follower to pick it up or open a door or disable a trap but what got a little irritating was that in order to issue most follwer commands was that you have to look at the follwer and hold the "A" button in order to be able to go into "command" mode.

If were were able to just say "follower" and it went into "command" mode I personally think it would be much more faster and the make the game seem more fluid.

One more thing I would like to see added to the command list is being able to tell a follower to loot a container and setting a loot limit to a follower like we can our selves (I love the loot limit feature by the way).

Anyway sorry for the essay, thought I would get some pointers out there. what do you guys and girls think? :)

I thought the Kinect for Skyrim was a gimmick.

So did I at first, but after assigning all the spells and getting a little pratice using it can make the game really fun! personally i think a kinect build is more for mages than anything but it is a cool feature which i hope they will improve on and add to any future elder scroll or fallout title. just my opinion of course.

any particular reason you didnt like using the kinect?

That's awesome, but... there are still game- or quest-breaking issues that haven't been fixed more than a year after release. There are underdeveloped features affecting the entire player base, like the inability to use spells on horseback. Shouldn't they address these issues first?

Rosveen, i would happily let them add magic on horse back first! love horse combat.

it is more of a request than a demand and i would like some more quests fixed as well.

I...uh...don't have it...

The reason I say its a gimmick is because nobody talks about how great it is. I like watching playthroughs of Skyrim on YouTube and no one uses the feature.

You can trick kinect by assigning different names to different things. E.g my vampire was also an electromage. I assigned the shock spells thus:

LIGHT = Lightning Bolt
LIGHTNING SPELL = Chain Lightning
WARHAMMER = Thunderbolt

Kinect is awesome btw. Here's a video of my spellsword, with lots of shouts and spell changes, but little pausing or menu diving

This should really be in the 360 section.

I use the Kinect commands and it is far from being a gimmick. It works extremely well and keeps me from going into the menu's most of the time meaning the game play is a lot more fluid with fewer interruptions. Switching spells on the fly as a mage is fantastic. And commanding my follower is 100% better than going into a menu. I can say wait or follow me from a good distance away and they do it. It makes it seem like they are really listening to me which makes it more fun. It's fun to say Ally Retreive Item and they go pick up whatever it is I'm looking at.

Concerning followers I'm not sure what your complaint is exactly. What command are you using where you have to be facing them? They don't have any commands that I need to open their menu for since the Kinect covers them all. Did you download the list of commands? You can have the followers do anything they would normally do from the commands list by speaking.

As far as spells go you can assign a spell to any command so if you are a mage and you aren't using the melee weapon commands you can use one of those. For example you can assign your Rally spell to Greatsword and if you say "Equip Greatsword" it will put the Rally spell in your left hand. It's not ideal but it works.

Personally I wish they had made commands for every spell but they may have run into recognition issues with too many commands. That is my one minor gripe with the Kinect. It has too much trouble recognizing commands sometimes. There are certain ones that it just has a hard time recognizing. The rest work nearly every time. I'm not sure what the issue is because I'll say it exactly the same and one time it won't register and the next time it will. That can be annoying. Considering the limited number of commands I would think it shouldn't be having any issues with them but I guess it goes down to the recognition software they are using and I haven't seen one of those yet that worked flawlessly.

Regardless it makes up for itself with the convenience of doing so much simply by speaking a few words. I would really hate to go back to not having it. Just simple things like saying Quick Map to pull up the map and then saying Markarth and having the map move immediately to Markarth. Once you get used to that the old way seems slow and cumbersome. I get that people don't care for the Kinect and I don't either for the motion stuff. It's really not very good. But the voice commands work extremely well for Skyrim and for that reason I really like it.

I've had it a few months now and I've never used follower commands. I'll have to try that. I would never go back either - it's just so much more immersive.

To be honest I think they should expand it to other platforms first. It doesn't actually need Kinect in any shape or form.

You'll really like it then. Telling them where to stand or just saying "Ally Wait" to get them to stay back and then without even going back to them saying "Ally Follow" and they "hear" it even though you are a good many yards in front of them. The other night I was playing and I had told my follower to wait and I went ahead and forgot where I left him. I went back looking and couldn't find him so I just said "Ally Follow" and he happened to be close enough to hear it and came running. That was really cool and very useful. I also like saying "Ally Trade" because they will open up the trade menu instantly without saying anything meaning you don't have to constantly hear their sarcastic remarks about carrying your stuff. That alone is worth it to me.

Yeah I know, just thought I would get a greater number of responses here.

I will give an example and then what I am asking for.

example: "ally open", the follower wll open the door. "Ally use", the follower will activate what you are looking at be it a lever or a trip wire.

great commands but I want to add a little more.

what i want is this: "ally pick lock", "ally loot", "ally equip".

I think saying exactly what you want your ally to do will make the experience a lot better as a whole. being able to loot containers would also make follwers alot more convenient as well. at the moment you have to grap all the stuff from the container, trade with follower. the kinect is meant to make this experience alot faster and remove menus from play and so far it's doing it really well. but if you were to say "set ally loot limit 100, sort by value" it would make the looting experience alot more fun. also telling your follower to loot bodies would be good.

what i meant by having to hold "A" to go into "command" is that some commands such as retrieve and pick lock are only accessable in command mode, which svcks.
by just saying "Ally" sjould put you straight into command mode, then you can follower up with your command.

I just think it would make the process quicker.

also I know i can assign spells through weapon slots instead but it just seems a little silly saying "equip warhammer" if i want to use a flee spell :/

I guess it is something you have to experience first with out pre-judgement before hand. also there is a playthrough on youtube i watched that used kinect, he wasnt very good though, kept talking which confused the kinect.

No you can't. All you can do from favorites is switch gear and take potions. And even then it requires pulling up favorites and scrolling down a long list to find what you are looking for meanwhile pausing the game and taking you out of the action. Using Voice commands I can pick any item from the favorites menu instantly without having to leave combat or pause the game. It does it on the fly right in the middle of the action.
