More mods editing lvl.lists => more CTDs?

Post » Mon Jul 30, 2012 3:14 am

I think I finally found a more or less stable load order after updating Skyrim to the latest version, but I still can't get rid of some random CTDs and freezes. I have the latest drivers (I've tried out many of the latest ones, so it's not a bug with the newest) for my ATI card, and my computer is not overheating. After removing quite a few mods which modified the leveled lists (Real Wildlife, Crafting 300, The Chronicles of Steel etc.), I noticed that these CTDs became less frequent. Still, I get them from time to time, probably about once every hour. Is this a known problem when using multiple mods of this type?
EDIT: I'm using the crash fixes for both the Sounds of Skyrim mods.

I'm in the process of doing some minor playtesting/evaluating of a bunch of mods I'm considering using in my next game, and they include a mess or mods adding weapons and armors to the leveled lists. I'm pretty religious about using BOSS to establish load order and having WB build a bashed patch to ensure they all play nicely with each other, so I haven't had any problems.

One caveat to that, though: when I installed them all at once I was simply fortune them all and trying them on to weed out any items that were visually sub-par. I didn't do any extensive playtesting, like using them in combat, using them will moving to another world cell, fast-traveling, all the little things that make no sense to cause conflicts but might. As in "I think the Akaviri sixy-Time Ultra-Revealing Boob Plate Armor of Doom looks great, but when I fast-travel wearing it, my character shrinks to two feet tall, the guards all turn purple and ten dragons spawn! WTF?!" and that sort of unpleasant surprise.

But as I say, they all seem to load fine at once with no CTDs.

I find that script heavy and leveled list editing heavy mods in general will stress your system. I'm using Levelers Tower right now, and the Garden area of that place actually made my laptop get warmer. The fan for this laptop is a good one, so it certainly was not because my computer isn't that great. You have to be careful when using any mods that have tons of scripts or new additions to leveled lists.

Hopefully a good leveled list merger will come around for Skyrim. I prefer using separate programs for each thing that is a good idea to do when using mods. I haven't had too many issues mainly because I'm extremely careful about what I use.

I remember that one time I ended up fighting bandits who had the skirt only fur armor on yet appeared pretty much in their loincloth. that was amazing and hilarious. I showed it to my mom, and she was laughing. Mod conflicts can yield amazing humor at time.
