Hello, I'm currently working on the Staff of Magnus quest. You are supposed to kill this mage named Morokei and he's supposed to drop two specific items, one quest item and another a mask. He drops the mask, but doesn't drop the Staff of Magnus which is the quest item I needed in the first place. It's rather frustrating. I've reloaded my save four times now and each time I kill him, he only drops the mask. The quest indicator is still on Morokei's body after i loot everything off of him. No staff of magnus.

I've seen YouTube videos where he drops the staff so I know this quest is working for some of us, but not me. Anybody else encounter this problem?

I'm not sure if I should just abandon this entire College of Winterhold quest line now that I'm stuck.

Anybody?

I could be worse. I did the quest and got the staff the first time. Later I happened to go back in the dungeon and lo and behold there was another staff on the ground next to him. Now i have 2 staffs...

Look up the item ID and use the console command player.additem or look up the quest IDs and use the setstage command to complete that part of the quest.

Just to make sure. Did you look around to see if the staff rolled around somewhere in the dungeon? Sometimes it is still in the inventory even if it has flown off but check just in case.

Ya the staff was hard to find for me. It rolled WAAAAY away from his corpse when I killed him, and it was hidden in a really odd spot. Was weird.

yeah look around carefully..

i had to reload the part where i killed another quest related npc.... however the final killing shot resulted in his body going absalutely beserk and bouncing off the walls like the horses do in certain circumstances... the resulting force made him disappear, quest item weapon he was hold was stuck a room back from where i killed him stuck between 2 things... where it shouldn't have been able to even get to.

Weird things happen...

Thanks for responding everybody. Yeah, I looked around everywhere for it and it's nowhere to be found. Even if it flew off somewhere it should still be in his inventory. It wasn't unfortunately.

I guess I'll have to resort to console commands. ugh.

How can I look up the item id or quest id for that matter? Thx!

will add the Staff of Magnus to your inventory. If getting it that way doesn't trigger the next step in the quest, use

setstage MG07 50

You could try loading a save and killing Morokei again. I had to do that during the Gaulder quest since a body disappeared.

I tried killing him again and he finally dropped the Staff. I guess the fifth time is a charm!
