Morrowind Nostalgia

Post » Thu Dec 06, 2012 9:38 am

Morrowind has been my favorite game for over ten years now and the opportunity to venture back to the scene of my very first TES adventure has been great. I was excited when the DLC was announced, but I wasn't sure exactly what to expect as far as content that would bring me back to TESIII. Although my work life prevents me from spending as much time gaming as I used to, I have been able to spend a few hours playing DB and I have been thrilled with the rediscovery of things I loved in TESIII.

Right now I am really loving the music that brings me right back to my days playing TESIII ten years ago. What an awesome way to recapture the feeling of Morrowind! I was also was taken back by seeing the drinks from TESIII: Matze, Suljamma, and my favorite, flin!

For you MW fans out there, what experiences have you had that bring you back to TESIII?

Seeing how everything is either ruined or been taken over saddens me.

What really grinds my gears is how wrong they got an island that THEY designed

Everything is in the wrong place

Try to pretend that Morrowind's Solstheim never existed in the way you remember it, because it's not viable to take that version of the place and apply it to 2012.

I haven't played enough yet to make any observations on the accuracy of the map. My hope was that they would stay as true to TESIII in every way as much as possible.

The river is gone, lake fjalding has gone, thirsk looks different and is in the wrong place, some of the stones are in the wrong place.
, skaal village is wrong, island is not as flat as it was in bloodmoon.

How is it inaccurate? I haven't found any yet, although there is new content that wasn't previously there. That's not a problem though, I didn't expect an exact replica. The erruption likely uncovered new things.

The lake isn't gone? It's not as flat, because it wasn't meant to be. The technology wasn't there when they first made it. The stones are all accurate. Skaal village is accurate, Thrisk has moved maybe 30 feet. Likely because it's not the same building as it was 200 years ago. Castle Karstag is accurate.

You are aware that there was some MASSIVE tectonic activity in the area, no?

The places that are replicated, Altar of Thrond, Fort Frostmoth, Castle Kartaag, Skaal village, Thirsk Mead Hall, Gyldenhul, etc., are all in just about the exact locations if you overlay Bloodmoon maps and allow for land mass changes.

Island was flat because it was impossible to make good mountains. Lake Fjalding is still there. I don't remember where Thirsk was..

Plus this is not only 200 years after the events of Bloodmoon.. and 9 years after the making of that expansion pack.

Thirsk likely isn't the same building. It's wood, and its 200 years old. Likely has been remade.

It's not, it is in a little opening surrounded by mountains

We need to keep in mind that none of the games are true 1:1 representations.

The whole series would basically be a wasteland after a generation or two if that was actually the case. Not enough farms to keep the population fed, many "towns" have too few populations which would cause massive inbreeding or overall loss of population. Important routes by ship are impassable by anything larger than a rowboat, random monsters would kill off just about any traveller if they weren't fast enough, etc.

This thread reminds me of some of the complaints that Cyrodiil wasn't a jungle when Oblivion came out...

Seriously? Seriously? Land rises and falls. These may or may not be the same buildings as in Bloodmoon (doubt they're even supposed to be). Even so, it's in almost the exact location, meaning that when the mountains rose, the people rebuit on them, where their last village was. I seriously can NOT believe you're trying to argue location placement lore for an island that was massively changed by Red Mountain. Seriously, get a grip. Play the game, or don't. These kinds of "complaints" are borderline trolling.

Not really trolling, but those complaints just don't take into account what 200 years of time can do.
Especially with a super volcano eruption.

Geography aside, I was sort of excited to see Varona Nelas again. Like Neloth, she has "aged" well.

Don't read unless you've done Neloth's quests.

Spoiler
"Varona... oh wait, she's dead." Seriously, Neloth rocks.
