Morvunskar, Boss(?) fight

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:16 pm

This is the first time I do the (extremely weird, probably neverending) "A night to remember" quest, so please don't spoil anything for me

So I headed into Morvunskar and decided to switch to my werewolf form for that bunch of people down in the basemant. I thought I should go straight for the boss on his throne, knock him (or her?) down and try scaring the other mages away with a howl. However, I probably was a bit too impetuous, missed and knocked another mage down when suddenly some kind of portal opened and took me (as a wolf) and the mage to some other realm with peaceful music playing. The still hostile mage was quickly dealt with, some seconds later, a heavily wounded Lydia followed me to that realm. After that, nothing.

My question is: Did I miss something in that keep? I can get over the missed loot and experience, I'm just wondering if that was really supposed to happen. You know, portals popping up and stuff... :ermm: Or did I probably miss some story part? I noticed that some mages earlier on had unique idle dialogs...

Many thanks in advance!

So without spoiling it you'll have to tell us what you've done so far. I don't recall a boss fight in Morvunskar for that quest...just a...you know...portal popping up. :P Well, you fight a bunch of Mage types, but I don't recall a boss.

Well, theres a couple of chests, and if you keep going you find this guy http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Naris_the_Wicked, but nothing really mind-blowing. Its not worth reloading, if thats what youre wondering.

The portal is normal.

I guess there is a boss of sorts, i remember a mage that was a pain in the behind to beat.

I snuck around in the shadows and learned that there were some average mages wandering around, as well as someone sitting on some kind of throne up the stairs, apart from that, he was the first to react and quickly wrapped himself into some kind of magic shield.

I really did nothing. I entered the keep, killed two mages at a forge, therefore made some other people from a nearby door mad, but the door was locked from the other side and they were too stupid to turn the key, so I went deeper into the dungeon. And there I was.

Thanks for that, I'll definitly get back to that dungeon once I'm stronger, but the sheer number of people down there suggests that this is not for the kind of player who usually avoids mudcrabs...

Well, I had my fun with it. :unsure2:
Spoiler
locked that Naris up in his own cage and left him to rot. When I came back at a later time for another quest, he was still imprisoned, throwing insults at me. ^^ Aside from the fact that the questgiver from A Night To Remember decided to "help me out" a bit, and killed about every mage running around in Morvunskar.

The portal is part of the quest line for "A Night to Remember", there is still a boss fight in Morvunskar.

If you come back after completing the quest, and after the enemies respawn:

Spoiler
sometimes Sanguine will be hanging out in the fort fighting the mages. He is a Daedric Prince and all, so he can't die. It would be cool to watch if he used something other than an iron dagger.

Sweet. I'm gonna' have to check that out - thanks. :P I might even enter the portal after I install the 1.4 patch since you can apparently exit now.

I think what it did was close the portal after the first time you leave, so you don't accidentally end up stuck there if you go back to Morvunskar. I could be wrong though.

Yes, there should be nobody in that precise room but killing the boss doesn't break the quest does it? :)

Well, I've never been back there on either of my 2, but as I understand it (pre-1.4) the portal is still there, but if you enter it after the A Night to Remember quest Sanguine is not in the 'grove' to send you out so you're stuck. Supposedly 1.4 added a way to exit the 'grove'.

IDK. I think people are referring to two different NPCs as "boss". I think people are considering Naris the Wicked and another named NPC who might be guarding the chest with the gauntlets in it? It's been a while since I've done that quest so I don't remember if the chest is guarded...I'm assuming it has some kind of boss-like or lieutenant-like NPC in the general vicinity of the Forgemaster's Fingers. I would think if you can get to the portal you can enter it whether the mages are all dead or if they're still around and/or attacking you. I don't recall a dialogue option when you approach the portal - I think you just enter it.

Edited for clarity.
