Mounted archery

Post » Sun Aug 19, 2012 4:56 pm

Ok, trying to play my game despite the plethora of bugs and glitches. Stole a horse and went to attack a giant so I engaged in a little mounted archery. Guess what? All the arrows missed the giant, even though the crosshair was clearly on the giant. The arrow would go almost at a 90 degree angle to the target. It has to be the fact that I was on a horse, because I got off and the arrows worked fine. I find it exceedingly humorous that the only reason to ride a horse ( mounted combat) doesn't work now. This game svcks on so many levels, why the hell do i still try to play?!?

if you are moving the arrow will not hit where the crosshair is.
I don't have 1.6 yet since my PSN account is european but when I am strafing with a bow I always have to adjust my crosshair to the opposite side of my strafe so it'll hit the target.

So if i'm moving left my crosshair will be slightly right of the target, you'll probably need to do this adjustment during horse combat aswell.

Actually if I remember correctly I was standing still on the horse, and just aiming on the giant. I fired about three shots and each one missed by a wide margin. I'll have to try again and see if there was a difference between moving and standing still.

I used experienced mounted combat for the first time today, but not a lot really. I found a horse on the rode between Valheim and Whiterun. I managed to kill a wolf but only because it was just standing there growling at me. Although it did feel satisfying, i dont think it ever going to be really useful, since you have to be in third person, unless you spend all your time fighting idle wolves. Such a shame you can't switch to first person. This feature would have really shined that way. And dont even get me started on not being able to switch to first person while transformed. I would litterally forgive bethesda for all their BS if they would add those two features.

Reasons that mounted combat is pointless and won't work in its current implementation:

1: it forces you into 3rd person view but the crosshair remains center of the screen - which is why all those arrows missed, because the crosshair doesn't actually point down the line of your arrow
2: there's a dirty great horse blocking your view of the enemy
3: most one handed weapons are too short to reach your target while on on horseback
4: for some reason spellcasting and shouts are disabled while riding

The song and dance of 1.6 may have been mounted combat but in reality it was the fixing of the respawns broken in 1.5 and the nirnroot glow that made the patch a must have.
