Mounted ranged combat, wtf?

Post » Fri Oct 12, 2012 1:35 am

I've been away from Skyrim for a long time but have now returned to find I am able to attack from my horsie.

I love my crossbow but shooting that thing from a horse is SO akward. When I shoot, the arrow goes no where near where I am aimin. I'm no aiming way behind my self, but let just say in a 45 degree angle or something.

Do I just svck or is something very wrong with the mounted ranged combat and aiming?

Thanks

Mounted shooting is like aiming in first person then switch into third person to shoot. It's always at an angle for some reason. While I'm pretty sure this is an unchecked bug, but it might be intentional.

I've done a fair amount of mounted archery, and it can be a bit of a lottery. There doesn't appear to be any set aim off angle, and even if you maintain a specific point of aim the arrows will go all around it with no specific bias.

Don't expect to be William Tell if you use any archery from a horse...and if you anticipate using it against close targets, hope you have an essential horse, I managed to shoot one of mine in the back of the head.

It's not too bad when you get used to it.

Don't aim behind you, you're no magician.

That was what I was trying to say, I am not shooting behind myself. My characters spine and shoulders won't rotate more than like 90 degrees which is quite realistic. But even shooting in front of myself is way off. It's hard to predict where the arrow will go, not where the crosshair is, that's for sure.

How about melee combat, is that better or should one just get off the horse and fight?
