Mounts and traveling through the world.

Post » Tue Jan 29, 2013 4:19 pm

Has there been any word on if there will be mounts in ESO? And if so will there only be the generic horse or will there be different types of mounts depending on your Race/Faction?

As to world travel, has anything said about how this would work? Will it be like in skyrim where if you discover a certain point of interest that you can fast travel to it? I guess this would have pros and cons. The pro being you can travel great distances in a matter of seconds, and the con being there will be less people actually traveling in the world. And from what I've heard they want to make exploring and traveling from point-to-point a big part in the game. I guess it also depends on what exactly the system would be for how to keep people interested in traveling etc.

What are your thoughts on this?

I believe that there will be mounts, likely just horses as we have not seen anything else in the single player games (Though I miss my PnP DnD Dwarf who rode a buffalo because it was better in combat than a horse :D).

I think there are also 2 methods of transport, wayshrines are something to do with 1 of them (I expect you can teleport to them from anywhere once you unlock them) and I think the other is likely to be the horse and cart we see in Skyrim. I doubt the fast travel will be available but equally I don't expect to have to do as much travelling all over the place as we did in Skyrim.

I would like there to be mounts, but not classic MMO style; you can't just summon a mount at any time. You'll have to buy a horse and take care of; you don't need to feed it or something like that - that would require additional resourses, but you'd need to "get friends with it" so that it stays outside a dungeon while you search inside of it. I am tired of just pressing a button and get a horse to ride on.

They should be mountable NPCs - yeah, that's sounds good.

I sure hope every race will have specific mount(s) from their homeland, but not restricted to them, everyone should be able to own any other mount, but it would cost much more than their own (or need a specific questline to get one).

If there are mounts, Dunmer should be able to use guars. I don't know anything about other races though - do they ride any unique animals? I'm not taking Senche into account, they're not really your typical MMO mount.

I lost my mount in Oblivion and Skyrim so many times I stopped buying new ones. Horse-in-my-pocket does have a purpose sadly.

Maybe the animation could be you whislting and the horse come running out of the distance, so it combines the feeling that the horse was waiting for you with the practicality of not needing to wonder where is it all the time.

I'm sure there will be mounts. What I'm hoping for is that khajits can ride khajits into battle.

I know khajit ride larger khajit into battle. Too lazy to look up names though.

I guess that would be one way to do it; although I'd much prefer my original tought of a mount. It would make them more valuable, and if you lost one you'd get to explore on foot! And that is what TES is all about!!!1! :D

Senche :) I'm afraid that if they're used as mounts, players will think of them as of ordinary animals - which they aren't.

Then make them talk. Would make khajit more interesting as well.

I hear what your saying but the Wayshrine system is something I really like the sound of. I hate when a game makes me travel vast distances multiple times. Eventually the scenic beauty of an area gives way to me cursing the Dev.'s for not letting me teleport if I've already been somewhere dozens of times before. Mounts would be nice as well -- as for what type of mounts? Make it reasonable and tasteful. I'd be more then happy to have an armored horse as my mount.

I've read somewhere that at launch there will only be the generic Khajit (I forgot the name but they're the most common in numbers). but they might add more 'Sub-races' in the future.

If we do get mounts I hope we'll be able to name them and walk side-by-side with them.

In one of their interviews the developers stated, that we'll get mounts, but only horses. There are no plans for other mounts, especially no dragons, because horses are the basic means of transportation in Tamriel and there are no dragons in the 2nd Era.

i am pretty sure mounts can only be used near roads, and when you ride too far from a road, you get dismounted with message unridable terrain.

meaning when one is @wilderness one walks.

I hope they'll never add flying mounts. I think that would ruin the game as it completely throws away the sence of scale and danger since you can just fly over everything.
