Mouse Control in Menus Seems Fine

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 10:03 am

I'm a little confused by these reports of issues regarding mouse operation in the game's UI menus. According to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtjWMN3RlnA&feature=youtu.be of PC gameplay by Koroush Ghazi of Tweakguides.com, the mouse seems fine. He clearly uses the cursor to select and activate items in the inventory as one would expect in a PC game. It does not appear that he has to use the arrow or WASD keys at all.

Of course I may have just misunderstood the reported problems. If so, would somebody who is actually playing a LEGITIMATE PC version of the game please clarify.

If you have not actually got the game or are playing a pirated version, don't bother responding because I'm not interested in scaremongering FUD or the opinions of criminals.

Thanks.

I do not have the game yet, so I cannot confirm either way what the supposed problem might be.
My general problem with the entire UI is the fact that you have to select each item individually. I want to be able to see the stats of each item easily, and being able to compare them without scrolling through each item one at at time and remember their stats.
Despite the many poor things with Oblivions UI, Skyrim's seem even more counter-intuitive, alteast from a PC players perspective.

it has to do with the acceleration, or the relationship between physical distance covered with the mouse and how that's represented by the pointer on the screen.

The two major complaints at this point are,

1) overall mouse acceleration, also known as mouse smoothing - this is a software component that attempts to make mouse cursor travel 'better' but with software. Its also a cheap way to get the mouse to emulate the joysticks on a controller. weather or not Bethesda created emulation or actual native mouse support i cant say for sure. but all previous games they made with this engine had real native mouse support, but they always have mouse smoothing on by default. this is usually remedied within days by a 3rd party mod.

2) X and Y travel is different. if you move your mouse three inches left to right, the cursor on the screen travels a different amount laterally then it travels vertically if you move the mouse the same three inches top to bottom. This inconsistency in mouse travel on the X and Y axis is disconcerting and hard to compensate for.

You refer to Tweakguides.com for reference... yet the site alone has to imply that his INI file is tweaked beyond the defaults.

Koroush's tweaks at Tweakguides are performance related tweaks. My query was concerning several reports of a game design that did not make use of the mouse for normal in-game menu operations.

I'm beginning to suspect that it was in fact scaremongering and FUD.
