Mouse usage, Ranged combat, tab targeting

Post » Tue Jul 02, 2013 3:03 am

So the snippets I pick up from podcasts and posts have me confused on the issues of targetting.

They say there will be both soft targeting with a mouse and tab targeting.

But I also read posts (possibly older) that talk about not just tabbing and hitting numbers on your keyboard.

And I have read posts about using the right and left mouse button for blocking and attacking - hopefully just for melee combat.

I personally do not like using my mouse for much. And hate the whole cross-hairs thing. If others like it and want to use it, cool, but its not for me.

Given that you can hit the tab key to target something, will mouse be required for ranged or spell casting?

Thanks,

Mal

The mouse buttons are keybound to the weapons you have in your hands. I believe if you plan to play what I can only describe as your generic destruction mage or healing priest then you'll need to have at least a staff in one hand to fill in gaps between using your magical abilities you have bound to your hotbar - I presume your magicka won't regenerate fast enough to use them all the time.

I imagine you could re-bind those mouse keys to a keyboard button but it would lead to an inferior way of playing if you prefer to go down the road of a normal MMO. Mouse turning is a lot faster than keyboard turning.

Eso will still mainly be an action mmo meaning you need to time your attacks and aim by looking at your opponent, for the most part.

It's not like the warcraft style mmo where you can play by simply hitting keys and tab target your next enemy. You will need to be constantly moving and looking around to be aware of your surroundings.

Southern,

Thanks for the reply.

Ahhh. Ok. So the mouse buttons are for weapons. I do want to play like the generic mage/healer.

I do use my mouse to turn, and for movement, but once I enter combat I find it easier to switch to keyboard usage. I usually dont need to move around alot and don't play classes that require positionals.

Yeah if I could bind the mouse buttons to keys, that would work just fine.
