Movie Remake Horror

Post » Sun Sep 09, 2012 4:00 am

So one thing we can all agree on is, well, Hollywood isn't always 100% with their remakes. But what is/are the few movies you'd probably be horrified if Hollywood remade or attempted to 'modernise'?

For me they'd be 'The Man with the Golden Gun', 'Diamonds are Forever' and the Godfather trilogy. Especially TMwtGG. That movie is one of the best Bond films, and who could possibly out-act Christopher Lee as Scaramanga?

Anyway, what movies are your 'Do not touch' movies? Or, if your joy has already been ruined, what movie did they make that you hated as a disgrace?

Star Wars
Rocky Series
Dirty Harry Series
The Sergio Leone Trilogy (Man with no name ones)
Leon
Heat
The Longest Day
Kelly's Heroes
Where Eagles Dare

And that's just a handful. Unfortunately, with remakes/reboots of Lethal Weapon and Evil Dead on the way, My hopes aren't high.

They better not touch Stanley Kubrick, 2001: A Space Odyssey, or some heads will be rollin'*slams fist against the table*

Never EVER touch The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Not even if it was directed by cinematic legend Uwe Boll? :spotted owl:

@Dirtymutant- With Gilbert Gottfried as Tony Montana.

Blade Runner. I'd rather not see its gorgeous practical effect replaced by sterile CG, among other things. They're apparently doing sequels though, which is fine I suppose.

I would say Star Wars, but they've been slowly remaking that since '97.

As for existing remakes that I dislike:

Rob Zombie's Halloween,
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Planet of the Apes
Disturbia (Rear Window)
The Time Machine
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.

Funny, considering A Fistful Of Dollars is a remake.

The Time Machine

Which one? The original, or the recent one or both?

For me it's both.

Justin Beiber can replace Micheal J Fox, and Robin Williams will play Emmet Brown. :D

Robin Williams actually wouldn't be bad as Emmet Brown.

Seeing as it doesn't affect my enjoyment of an original to have a remake exist I couldn't care less. Maybe Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure, it's too much of a period piece (although that didn't stop them remaking Footloose)

Definately Back to the Future, I will be so angry if they decide to remake those movies.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is kind of being remade which upsets me a lot because it is my favourite movie of all time.

Terminator 1 and 2.

Actually I would like remakes of all Star Wars movies (the only one I still think is really great is The Empire Strikes Back), but only after the death of George Lucas. I'd like to see what a talented director can do with the awesome setting if he isn't hindered by... That man...

Same, I'd like to see a 'serious' remake with more believable dialogue.

To be honest I'd like to see a lot of old films remade, set in the same time period but with appropriate dialogue for the time period rather than stage acting dialogue (same goes for Shakespeares dialogue, but with modern dialogue).

And I'd love to see Casablanca be remade to piss all of you cinema buffs off.

Been done already... Barbwire with Pamala Anderson is a direct adaption of the original.

Pam plays Bogart's role.

You may throw up in your mouth now.

Citizen Kane starring the cast of Expendables and directed by Micheal Bay.
This I endorse..

It would be Hollywood's magnus opus..

..win seven Oscars awards.

While it's impact would rally the stock exchange, unite mankind, and avert global warming.

Er anyway, I think my vote goes to Once Upon A Time In America. Or perhaps Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Or any of my favourite films, I suppose.

It's occasionally worked out better, like John Carpenter's version of The Thing, but that's quite a rarity.

message to the future, Leave the Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises alone... those movies are the definition of perfection in my eyes

Also i agree with The Good, Bad and Ugly, the series does not need to be touched, maybe you can make a video game out of it from a dedicated studio "thinking Red Dead" but other then that hollywood doesnt need to touch the series at all, leave it in legend... same goes with Dirty Hairy

p.s. still waiting for that Ultimate Zombie survival movie to come out... The 2006 Dawn of the Dead came kind of close but it wasnt good enough =/
