Moving next door

Well I just got to step away from Skyrim for a while. I think I am finally going to go ahead and buy FO:NV ultimate edition. I was waiting for it to go on sale since I know it was on sale last year and I KNOW it will go on sale the week after I buy it, but I just have to get away from Skyrim.

I've logged in about 1,200 hours and played about every character type I can imagine. Just not sure what else I can do that doesn't seem like deja vu anymore.

I've played all the TES game (except Redguard and the old phone apps) and I've played FO1, FO2 and FO3. So I think it's about time I got into FO:NV. The beauty of this game is that I'm going in unspoiled. When FO:NV came out I was playing something else so it never got my attention that much. Now I can go into it and really discover things inside the game as intended.

I am also keeping my eyes on TES OL, though to be honest I don't like MMO's so my sole interest in that game would be the solo content. Also not crazy about monthly fees either so I may have to wait until they switch to a free to play model before trying it (assuming they will have a subscription fee at the start, they haven't really said).

Anyway, can anyone recommend anything else as a break from Skyrim thats along the same open world sandbox type of games?

Thanks all see ya around (FO4 maybe?).

Well, I'll tell you right now... You are going to have a blast with that one. I will get fired up for another run before too long. I got the last DLC for that game when it was released and never played through it... lol

I wouldn't even think about other games and just dive into the desert.

I like them both. Now, of course you will get these series elitists that will start in about all kinds of bla, bla, bla and rip it apart and slam Beth writers about this and that.. To Hell with that nonsense.

They are both amazing game in their own right. FONV feels like more of an expansion of FO3 with all the great mods officially implemented. Every new feature presented in FONV was a mod for FO3.

I dont know any other open world games to the extent of TES, but some bioware games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect are semi open world. Plus they have quite good storylines.

Other games like Dishonored or Bioshock arent really open world, but there's lots to explore.

Story was horrible in Fallout 3 and the entire game lacked any kind of depth. New Vegas on the other hand has great story (multiple different paths), choices have consequences and unlike Fallout 3, it actually feels like Fallout.

Fallout is supposed to be Fallout and not "post-apocalyptic TES".

New Vegas has better writing and choices that matter.

Fallout 3 has a nice environment. And that's it.

It's his opinion to say the opposite too.

Try Two Wrlds II. It's actually a pretty fun game and the magic system is off da hook! And it's open world too.

You could also try Dragon Age: Origins.

Which also feels a bit out of place considering the timeline. It's been 200 years since the war but the wasteland looks like it only happened yesterday.

By forgetting the timeline the environment does seem nice however.

Agreed. FO3 Blasted all previous lore out of its place.

It's effect on NV is noticeable with many confusing the Mojave BOS for the ridiculous one in DC.

I played DA:O and loved it. Beat the MQ at least a dozen times, played every origin, etc. Hated DA2 with a passion. My hatred of BioWarEA begins. I loved ME1 and ME2. Waited on ME3 and read about the ending. My hatred for BioWarEA solidifies. Honestly I don't think I can even think about buying a BioWarEA game at this point. I hate it because I really did love those earlier games.

I prefer Fallout 3. I think it displays Bethesda's most accomplished, professional writing to date. In fact, it's the only game Bethesda has done that I would say has even good writing. I loved the environment. I thought most of the characters and stories were memorable. I've actually been itching to play it again recently. I think I will, as soon as I finish my current Skyrim character.

I just didn't 'connect' with New Vegas, at all. I don't like desert environments so that was a huge turn-off for me. I also didn't connect with the whole quasi-Hollywood-style, pseudo-wild west vibe Obsidian appeared to be aiming at. It feel cheesy to me. The stories and characters in New Vegas did not engage my imagination as much as the stories and characters in Fallout 3.

You'll love New vegas ultimate edition. It is a far superior rpg than skyrim.

edit: Oh, and i'd just like to say that new vegas is deeper and has more choice/consequences than fallout 3, but fallout 3 boast superior exploration.

For me it's Fallout 3, easily. I enjoyed Fallout: New Vegas, but it just didn't svck me in and capture my attention like Fallout 3 did. Maybe one day I'll go back to it, but I really have little desire to finish it.

Yea, but he doesn't have to shoot down the other guy in the process. Pretty much predictable fills the role Senor Cinco already explained:

FO3 is nice. I adventure there still.

As well as in Oblivion.

I don't know.... I have Red Dead Redemption, speaking of monster worlds. I've never finished the story, just hunt and gamble, rob the occasional train. Stuff like that.

I tried Fable 3.... that svcked pretty bad, but I've heard that Fable 2 was good. Don't quote me on that.

You may be interested to play Wasteland 2 once it gets released in a couple of months if you haven't heard about it yet. I backed inXile's kickstarter for it last year and I'm getting really excited to play it. I believe you can go on their site and become a slacker backer for it or perhaps preorder it if you didn't back it when it was on kickstarter. Since you played the original Fallout games you should enjoy Wasteland 2.

This.

I loved both games, but I feel 3 was more masterfully crafted. As for games to recommend, try earlier TES games, Fallout 3 or NV, Borderlands 2, or Fable II. (I enjoyed Fable 3, but not as much as 2.)

What was there to enjoy? I think 3 is one of the worst games I've ever played and has pretty much killed the series.

Solid but simple visuals. Unique art style and visuals. Good dialogue. Loot. I liked it, and I've played far worse games. Far worse. I thought the story was great too. Excellent pacing.
