Muffle worth it?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:28 am

Hi.
I play as a Bosmer thief/assasin, and im currently lvl 17 as of this post, but as i make my way down sneak skill tree i saw the perk muffle.
My question is: is muffle worth/usefull for my character who allready has high sneak, and uses light armour. My ability to sneak undeteced is allready decent (51 sneak + the extra % the first sneak perk gives.)

if i miss spelled anything i apologise. (english is not my first language)

Erm, well, if you're talking about the perk that reduces noise from amor, I don't think you have to. It'd be easier just to enchant your boots with muffle, or wear something like Shrouded Boots. That is, of course, if you're not intending on getting anything else on that side of the Sneak Tree.

The muffle perk in the Sneak tree is worth it. Use it with the boots from DB and you're a silent assassin

Sneak is way too OP, don't pick it and don't boost the 0/5 past 1/5, otherwise sneaking presents no challenge.

The muffle from sneak tree is 50%
Boots from DB are 50%

Spell is 100%

Worth it? Yes if you dont want to make footstep sounds.

Custom enchant muffles are 100%- why this works out stronger than db/ng boots is anybodies guess

Same here. For a Conjurer, sneak and illusion comes in pretty handy.

It's a good way to improve to level illusion. I got my illusion to 100 using this. Because my PC had maxed out sneak with most of the perks already, I can't say whether it was effective or not. Silent casting perk would be worth getting though if you are rolling a sneaky mage.

Khajiit's fur absorbs such sounds and noise. J'rahzir's legs are already muffled. Pity one is not J'rahzir... *sly smile*

Already got that perk. :ninja: For someone who's only got 130 health, getting about undetected is critical. One hit kills (the recieving end) are not uncommon.

The one I don't get is the forwrard roll perk. When does this ever help?

But the max you can get is 100% so if you use a spell or custom enchant boots the perk is superfluous.

Just sneak, jump and hit the sprint button when landing. Same result, no perk wasted.

If you want to quickly cover a short distance without being detected, especially a short distance from one shadow to another through a lighted area. Once you get the silent running, it makes the silent roll superfluous, but until then it could have some limited use.

The whole left side of the sneak tree is lame IMO. Muffle is okay of you don't want to worry about an enchantment or spell, but light foot just lets you be lazy, silent roll is somewhat limited in use and then you get silent running which is not that fun and way OP. And Shadow Warrior sounds fun but is way over the top OP. Takes the suspense out of sneaking.

I ignore all the muffle stuff for armour because I refuse to accept that a heavily armoured warrior could stick enough cotton wool between his armour to be as quiet as a lightly armoured thief. It`s just dumb.

Yeah, I am only lvl 11 on my newly made Khajiit assassin and I see already that sneaking really doesn't need all those perks. If I wanted to run around with absolutely no chance of being noticed I would just use a console command or something. But why would I even play a TES game like that?

I probably won't develope the left side of the skill tree at all.

If one was used to the movements that created noise because he had familiarized himself with his armor and practiced many tedious hours, as you must to reach that sneak level, and had specially adapted armor, it's not implausible. Just because it is heavy armor doesn't mean it can't be adapted so the joints are quiet and the metal holds steady and doesn't clank together.

There is a book that tells the story about a Master of Heavy Armor. He never took it off, even while doing the big nasty. He was so well trained...it was like wearing nothing at all.

You mean like Uthur Pendragon in the movie Excalibur?
