I found out you can't have multiple save files with different characters, the autosave saves over your old file. My character got lost when my boyfriend's autosaves saved over it. I read that to have different save files, you have to play the game and save with different profiles set up on the PS3. No problem, I made him his own profile and copied his file over to his profile and I will just redo mine on my own profile. The problem now is that it won't let me save progress with this file because it says it belongs to another user from where I copied it. It won't even autosave. It is still on the same playstation, just a different file. Why would it even let me copy it if all it will do is sit there?

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Both of these files had manual saves that were written over by the autosave feature.
