Multiple levels of speech checks? : Fallout: New Vegas

I've noticed on a few occasions that some NPCs have different levels of speech checks for the apparently the same thing. For example

Cass in Mojave Outpost requires a speech check in order to get her to join you as a follower, one requires 50 speech the other requires 75 speech but both options end up with the same outcome of her coming with you.

So my question is, what's the point in the higher requirement checks does it do something later on or what?

it can add or subtract steps in a quest ...I'm not sure about Cass - I've not engaged her questline yet.

The results are likely varied depending on the specific situation. Just because there's no apparent difference with Cass' doesn't mean there won't be one with another NPC.

In fact, in that very situation, Cass has two barter checks. The first has you paying 700 caps for her caravan, the second has you playing a drinking game involving 10 whiskey bottles (which you must provide).

I don't know all the differences with Cass but I do know the highest speech check with her causes her to just agree to sell the caravan no caps or games required. Also higher speech checks give more XP I believe.
