Multiple players per account?

Post » Thu May 23, 2013 9:39 am

So Eve is starting this new thing. For those not familiar with Eve, when you're not playing, your character still gets "experience." So the longer you have an account, the better your character is gonna be (this isn't the new thing, only the background). But only one of your characters can get this "experience at a time." (i.e. you can only train one character per). Now recently they announced that if you want to pay for multiple subs, on the same account, then you can train up multiple characters at once. This is something Eve players already do but just have the characters on separate accounts.

Other games players have multiple accounts so they can play multiple characters at once.

So since we all know that ESO is gonna be a sub-based pay model (obviously we don't know, but we can't hope for quality if it has a different pay model *cough*GW2*cough*), I say we should get this implemented here so my wife and I can buy the one game, pay multiple subs, and play online together (like almost any other game). It's no different than buying a console (or many pc games, duh) game and going online, or playing one of the many games in local co-op setting. It'd be awesome to be able to pay multiple subs to one account to be able to have two active logins to keep the characters on the same account.

Overall, it makes it easier on the consumer to do what the consumer is going to do anyways. So why not make it easier?

Since I don't see how the mechanics of this game could support "experience gained while doing nothing", I don't see where having multiple characters would matter. EVE is a different game where you set up entities that have to spend time doing something to gain something, like most RTS games have. In this game, it's what your character does that gains you something. If your not playing, then your character is not gaining experience.

That doesn't mean logging in and playing two characters from one account simultaneously shouldn't work.

edit: missed a word

I don't see the point. Why have 2 subscriptions, and 1 account? What's the difference between just having 2 seperate accounts and 2 subscriptions? Its the same price anyway, you're both logging in. I just don't see a difference at all. They'd probably make you buy the game twice too for a game with a box price.

EVE being able to autotrain one and play the other and alternate is kind of a good idea, but it just has no practical use in an MMO outside of that sort of system I think.

The point is it's all on one account, it's easier to take care of, easier to manage, etc.

Yeah but, you can just make 2 accounts with the same password on the same email accomplish the same thing. idk.

Maybe tying two "handles" you can login from to one master account is what you're talking about.

Tell me one place on the internet where you can make an account that has the same login as another account.

It won't, unless ZeniMax significantly alters how the game handles accounts. In MMOs (n my expreience,) it won't let you log into your account from another system if you're already in. Some will actually force a logout if that is attempted. Furthermore, since goodies are tied to an account, you're basically giving a second person free stuff. And in some MMOs, the chat system itself directly links to an account, and god knows what confusion will happen if there's two people on the same account at the same time trying to talk.

What Eve is doing is basically saying "You give us more money, and we'll let you level up more than one character at the same time on your account. The cost is the same as an additional subscription." They are NOT doing what you think they are doing, which seems to be two seperate account subcriptions on the same account. UNLESS Eve Online actually lets two people login to the same account at the same time, it's not a true subscription to the game. Just a means of making extra money by giving the players some goodies.

Battlenet;

When wow converted their accounts into battlenet, they made it possible to assign several wowaccounts to one battlenet account, so you just had to log in with the battlenet account, then choose which account to play with, might be better to refer to that one than eve′s system, since eve is more characterbased or whatever you should call it

Ask your self this, could you load up Skyrim and play two characters at once in that game? (if it was even possible to do).

What your really asking for, in a round about manner, is an Alt character. I see nothing in this game that would stop that.

I didn't claim any of this wasn't true. That is how it works. It also wouldn't be hard at all to allow multiple connections per account. As you already said they can detect if you're already logged in when you try to log in elsewhere. And to the chat system, play D3 and WoW at the same time, there ya go, it's that exact instance.

Again, that is exactly what Eve is doing as you said, and I didn't say they were doing anything different from that. I'm glad you understand it, too ^_^. I'm just extrapolating it further to explain what I'm requesting.

I can do that in WoW, and any other MMO. I could do it in Skyrim if it allowed me to launch multiple copies of the game. Though it's pointless for a single player game as they're in separate places whereas in a multiplayer game they're in the same world. If I were asking for alts I wouldn't've made the topic...

So it would be possible to multibox(or like you said, have 2 ppl playing on the same account) with one account? Well, I don't see that being high on their priority list because it's not really that much harder to use separate 2 accounts and those who would use this would probably use multiple accounts even if it isn't in

In short the OP is asking that he be allowed to skip buying a 2nd copy of the game in order to save on a minute amount of hassle in dealing with a second account.

I doubt that will happen. Mostly because I don't really see what the hassle would be? I suppose if you were paying monthly manually with time cards but that's at worst logging in to 2 accounts 1 time a month. To reduce that to 1 account 1 time a month Zenimax is supposed to give up $60?

multi-boxxing from one account is against TOS in just about all games. to play 2 character simultaniously you would need to have 2 active acounts. (you need to buy 2 boxes and have 2 subscriptions)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not badmouthing your idea or putting it down in anyway, I just don't see a point. You have to go through all of the same exact protocol to login multiple characters as you would with multiple accounts.

Oh, I guess if he's asking to do it all from one copy of the box game, that's unlikely. I mean, it'd be cool of them to do it for loyal customers, but from a buisness standpoint I just don't see it happening.

The multiple subs per active login as implied by the original post.

Basically, I'm saying that Eve is starting to allow this. How long before other MMOs follow suit? Sure, it might seem like it's not a good idea, but no one has done it before. It's new and innovative. Doesn't mean it's the best idea in the world but it doesn't mean it won't work, either.

eve is it's own beast. im not sure why anyone would want or need more than one character in eve. since you can learn everything.

The problem is, no other MMO needs to follow suit, since Eve is... unique in terms of how characters level.

Eve's experience system discourages multiple characters on the same account- hence why they added the new system. Other MMOs don't discourage multiple characters on your account (and in at least one case, provides a subscriber free character slots any time that subscriber reaches max level on a character!)
