MusiaSoundtrack info question

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 10:43 am

Hi, I'm very new here so forgive me if this has already been discussed. Just point me to an already existing thread if there is one.

Anyways, One of the integral elements of a game for me and how well it plays and feels is the musical score or soundtrack. The ambience and mood of a game is enhanced by the quality of its music. I have inadvertantly been killed or suffered serious health depletion a few times while paying close attention to the score. That being said, can anyone tell me who is/will be doing the soundtrack for Dishonored? Please tell me or provide a link to any info available. I'd really appreciate it.

Oh, and just a quick note to add regarding the artistic design, I'm very impressed that Viktor Antanov is involved. Well done, Bethesda/Arkane for getting him on board!!!

*curses my own spellin* That should be "Music" in the title....sheesh!

Agreed, although LGS legacy taught me that everything is integral, except maybe graphics.

Oh yes, fer sure. Everything is integral. It's just that music has always been something I've paid attention to. As far as LGS Legacy goes, you may have me at a disadvantage. I'm assuming your platform of choice is PC. Unfortunatley, my old beast is not capable enough to support gaming, so I am a console player (360). If you are referring to the Logitech product, may I ask, being really a peripheral , does it significantly change or enhance the experience from what the game devs produce as a final product? If that is the case, I may be convinced to shell out a chunk of money someday on a PC that can accomodate decent gaming software.

Yes. Many of the HL tracks were carried over and remixed for HL2. Tthe composer, Kelly Bailey, did pretty well all the sound for both games if I recall correctly. Interstingly, his face was used as a model for Gordon Freeman.

Regarding your response to my Logitech comment, you wil have to pardon my ignorance. As I said, I am not a PC gamer so my knowledge of the intricasies of such is limited. I would be wise, I suppose to not make assumptions about things I am not all that familiar with, even though I do try to keep myself somewhat informed

No worries, Im not fussy about that sort of thing. It is a shame Not many know about LGS (Looking Glass studios), PC only is the biggest issue i think. Not that the ps1 could have handled their amazing games anyway....

Interesting info about gordon/kelly, but I was dissapointed with HL2. Im not quite sure why though other than the re-used music and slightly less platforming.
I think it was because of the theme, was so different from the 1st. Still a great game though but it stole the glory from vampire the masquerade: bloodlines when I probably prefer that more, although that game was released quite bug ridden but thats a common thing nowadays.

Have you tried the http://dishonored.wikia.com/wiki/Dishonored_Wiki yet? It may contain that info.

I would have said I wanted Clint Mansell, pre-ME3, but now I'm not so sure. It sounds like he used up the best of his talents on Requiem for a Dream.

I'm curious what sound they're going to go for. I think industrial, (of the calmer) NIN variety stuff would work well, but I'm not holding my breath...

No. I want the soundtrack to stand out, add to the game, like game music used to. Judging by the ME3 demo this guy will provide the opposite.

Although we still don't know who's doing the music for Dishonored, we now know (maybe? kind of?) what the music will sound like. A lot of people have (independently, mind) mentioned that the music in the new preview reminds them of Max Payne. I liked it. It suits the atmosphere.

Having been pre-occupied the last week playing something else*mutters something about ME3* I thought I’d check back here. I saw the game play footage video and so far I like what I heard.

I agree, Oof, that Clint Mansell as of late is close to mediocre ( his contribution to ME3 ,while effective, hardly stands out). I’m not sure if the calmer NIN “industrial” sound would fit with what I saw in the footage-maybe.

I’ve been thinking of other composers whose soundtrack contributions in the past have been effective and enjoyable but since only only getting a tease of the gameplay, it’s hard to say if any of their styles would be good or not for Dishonored. They include:

Bill Brown
Michael McCann
Inon Zur
Trent Rezner
Jack Wall (yeah, I know, he was largely responsible for ME and ME2 music and personally, I quite enjoyed the sound)
Michael Bross
Amon Tobin

I hope whatever style the devs choose to go with, that it matches the Victorian era somewhat. That’s not to say they should stick to period music but they should try to enhance the style and atmosphere.

I'm thinking of a very specific track... It has violins and ticking sounds... But I can't remember what it's called, so never mind that.

Yeah. I wouldn't want electronica or dance hall. Or rock. No rock, please. It would be totally incongruent with the setting.

Man does that take me back.

Although in the sake of fairness it probably fits SS2's cyberpunk setting better than Dishonored stealpunk setting. I'm hoping for lots of glass harmonicas in Dishonored. ;)

I'd like them to do something with the harpsichord or clavichord. :frog: I'm only half joking. It would actually suit the 17th-19th century mash-up they've created.
