Music Legends

Post » Wed Jan 02, 2013 9:56 am

This thread is about all the musical legends we had over the years and might have in the future. A musical legend is basicly music that will most likely forever live on until the end of the world (Which probably will never happen until in about 5 million years). Now I do have some questions for ye'.

1. Who do you think are currently Music Legends?

I'll name 5 that I think are Music Legends...
-1. The Beatles. Unique Legend.
-2. Queen. Rock and Vocal Legend.
-3. Micheal Jackson. Pop and Dance Legend.
-4. Lynyrd Skynyrd. Country Rock Legend.
-5. The Who. Classic Rock Legend.

2. What aspects do you think are needed to be a Music Legend?

Probably one of the biggest things that really is required to be a Music Legend is either A: Be extremely unique and be almost impossible to copy. (The Beatles for example. They are like their own thing!). Or B: The music is highly emotional. Now, about "B". It's one thing to get people dancing and loving a song but it is another thing to get them to truly feel connected with the song due to it being emotional in some way. This can be sad emotional, memory emotional, or relation emotional. If the music can truly connection with a lot of people then I think it should be counted as a Music Legend for this is definably not an easy thing to do. Also, it is possible to be a Musical Legend just because you are just that good with the music genre you are doing but this seem to rarely happen.

3. Who do you think will become Musical Legends in the future, if they continue their music career?

This question is basicly for 'newbies' musicians that recently started their career within the last few years either just in a town or in a fanbase. If you ask me, I do think some of the Brony Musicians have what it takes to become Legends but it is mostly base on if they are willing to go down that route and actually start making music that isn't related to a show.

Anyways. Your turn.

I like the Beatles, Queen, MJ so they get in my list of music legends. There are quite many to choose from. Pretty much anyone in the British Invasions are legends, too! :hehe:

And Mastashake15 is right...where is Elvis? Where is Johnny Cash? Bob Dylan? Santana? B.B King?

Again there is many, of course. But come on, Elvis, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan should be in that list!

I think a premature death has a tendency to elevate one to legendary status especially when they've managed to acquire a measure of success while still alive. Kurt Cobain comes to mind here. Or in some cases, mental instability can elevate them too.

I don't think any brony musician will be a "music legend" because they are part of a fandom of a show that won't be around forever. People like the Beatles don't have such baggage holding them down, however.

I think Bieber could end up being a music legend, depending on what he decides to do. He's getting old now, so he has to decide what to do with his popularity. He could probably go do his own thing and go down into history, whether we like it or not.

I think Tarja from the old Nightwish could be a music legend, but I'm not even sure what she's up to these days. Probably soloing I would imagine. Man, I loved her a lot way back when.

Such as Janice Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix -_-

Also Jusey1, as a fellow Brony I really doubt that a Brony musician will become a music legend IMHO. Great work, of course, but nothing Bob Dylan status

Australian Rock Legends: AC/DC, sure their riffs are simple and their new vocalist can get kind of annoying, but they have some classic songs and are the most succesful Australian rock group outside of Australia (with the possible exception of INXS, but who really cares about INXS?). They are also pretty original I guess, in that no-one has emulated their sound very well (my opinion).

Jimi Hendrix is also a rock legend, it's debatable whether he is the greatest guitarist ever, but I think it's safe to say he was the most innovative for his time of any guitarist whilst also being commercially successful.

Prince is in my opinion a music legend, he is a very versatile guitarist and plays all of the instruments on most of his songs, and although Lenny Kravitz also does this, Prince's songs are actually good. A great bass player, guitarist and pianist.

Dire Straits are a very original band, and although Knopflers voice follows the Bob Dylan approach to singing, he managed to capture a world weariness at a young age (much like Tom Waits but in a different way) on Dire Straits first couple of albums.

Simon and Garfunkel: Sure, they're very... wimpy? but Art Garfunkel has one of the best natural singing voices around, and Paul Simon utilised it well with his songwriting.

Elvis Presley: I don't think he 'stole' the black mans music as a lot of people say, he was certainly more succesful than others like Little Richard and Chuck Berry because of his colour, but he is a better singer than both. Personally I think his best work was in the 70's, but is 50's work is okay I guess.

The Rolling Stones: Started out as the 'bad-boy' Beatles, but found their own sound and supported several south american countries with their drug intake. Keith isn't the best guitarist but can sure come up with a riff.

Current music legends, in my opinion and in no specific order (because I'm lazy):
  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Jim Morrison
  • Chuck Berry
  • Robert Johnson
  • Johan Sebastian Bach
  • Queen (Band)
  • Black Sabbath (Band)
  • Pink Floyd (Band)
  • B.B King
  • Mark Knopfler
  • Ray Charles
  • Elvis
  • Tupac
2. What aspects do you think are needed to be a Music Legend?

Put your soul in your music, be original, be an influence for future artists. These are just a few of many aspects I think are important.

3. Who do you think will become Musical Legends in the future, if they continue their music career?

Bj?rk, because she's awesome.

I'll add more things to my list later.
