Naming items without enchanting : V

I've been wondering this for some time - when you enchant a weapon you can give it a unique name, but is it possible to do this without enchanting? I don't want to sacrifice my Elemental Fury 'enchantment' (which is incompatible with enchanted items, sadly), but I still want to name my weapons. Is there a way?

I'm playing on PS3 by the way, so console commands won't quite work for me.

You can go on the enchanting table, pick Soul gem, enchantment, name.
Then exit, your item SHOULD now be named, without actually USING the Soul gem.

I don't understand how that would work if you didn't aply the enchantment. Would seem like a bug to me. A bug that should not be fixed.

If this does work though I can finally name my glass battle axe that ive been using elemental fury with something awesome. I really don't feel like starting Skyrim right now though...

Sounds like it's worth a shot. I've always wanted to name my equipment, but I really dislike enchanted weaponry. Armour on the other hand.....

Lol. TES II: Daggerfall had the same bug. You could go to the Item Enchanter in the Mages Guild, pick an item to enchant, rename it, then exit enchanting menu, and it still renamed the item without enchanting it. Something tells me Bethesda let the bug happen again on purpose.

Just tried going through the steps to enchant and rename something then quit before pressing Enchant, didn't do anything for me, on the 360.

My items don't seem to say renamed when I rename them upon enchanting. =/ Anybody else running into that issue?

I think he's saying it should work like that, rather than claiming that it does. Because it definitely doesn't.

If you change something (such as the enchant), I've seen the name revert back to the original one. If that's not what happened to you, then it's probably yet another bug.

Hmm, I'll pay extra close attention this next time. I don't think that's what I'm doing, but I can't say with 100 percent certainty.

I was having trouble renaming items (on pc) til I discovered you have to hit 'enter' after you finish typing and before you actually enchant the item...
