Naming Pets and Animals

A few questions regarding pet and animal names for you,

Do you give your pets human names, like Gary, or do you prefer more unique names? Perhaps you use names from your favorite movies, video games or books. How do you name your pets and animals? Also, what are your pets names and how did you come up with that name or where did you get it and why?

I know there's a current thread asking you about your pets. I created this one since not many people would answer my question if I asked it in there and also because most people already mentioned all their pets, but not many gave their names. This one is basically all about the names and where we can all share our answers and have them get seen in one thread. Thanks guys.

------
I myself much prefer more unique names for my pets. I don't have a problem with pets having human-type names or anything, but I like giving my animals ones that maybe I remember from a video game or favorite movie.

I named the dog my girl and me rescued from a shelter back in September Spyro. When I was a kid, I use to play the original Spyro the Dragon game on PS1. I loved the game. I left out the "dragon" part.

II named my big male cat Jax. I wasn't a big fan of the game or anything but I got the name from the Jax & Daxter video game.

What are your pet's names and how/where did you come up with them?

My cat is named Dmitry, because of his left-wing ideologies.

My hermit crab is named Hermit. I couldn't think up anything better, but it suits him. One of my mastiff's nicknames is Harlequin. Sounds like her actual name, http://www.freewebs.com/pokemonotakugirl/GirlyHarley.bmphttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b2/Harley-Davidson.svg/250px-Harley-Davidson.svg.png, but also refers to her being a prankster. We also call her harlet just for the fun of it.

Guess if my dad named the dog after a motorcycle or a Pokemon character who looks awful in drag. (It was the motorcycle)

My guinea pig also was a cavy of many names. My sister had him and named him after Gizmo from Gremlins. She couldn't care for it, so I ended up with him. He had three names in his lifetime if you forget his original name. Pig Pig was the first one from me. Piggers was the second one. Munchlax was the half nickname one. I almost named Hermit Crap instead, but that would have been an awful name.

I was an immature 10 year old when I almost named the crab Crap. I truly am terrible at sticking with names for my pets.

I name my pets random things that interest me.

I have two dogs: one of them is a brownish yellow with a grey/white underside, and the other is black with a white underside. They're also twin sisters, so I named them Timber and Tundra as a reflection of the way they compliment each other.

My cat is named Sniper as he has a complex coat and a sneaky/impish personality that includes darting across the house at high speed to attack peoples' legs and feet.

I plan to call my next cat Delta, for the greek symbol of change. In my opinion, it's a simple but pretty name, and full of meaning as well.

A very long time ago in the eighties, there were two rats called Boris and Plague. Plague just fits a rat, and Boris was so-named as he was far too swift to be an Igor.
