Game engine doesn't support them, so a reason will have to be made up.

Say....insufficient gasoline and no nuclear engines for tanks?

If they can get a HUGE battle robot working (i know its on the east coast but still) why not a few small tanks like shermans powerd by 50 microfusion cells or something.

East Coast BOS stumbled across this Huge battle robot by mistake and all they did was repairing/finishing him. Plus he's pretty much the only of his kind in there.

Engine can't support Tanks. Chances are NCR does have the power to build them but why? Major enemies have been defeted till Caesar. The time and money needed to put into making a tank could be better spent rebuilding cities. Their soldiers have combat armour that can stop most small arms. Later they would get PA mostlikely looted from the BoS or they came across a pre-war stash.

Other reason tanks might not be around in large numbers is that they need alot of fuel and fuel being gone they fell out of use or only small numbers ended up being converted to use nuclear power or other fuel. Tanks ended up replaced by Power Armour which makes a soldier into a walking tank.

Having the raw resources may be the case, but to manufacture any number of tanks would require fully functioning industry - and how many functional factories have we seen in the Fallout series? Sunset Sasparilla?

Something else to keep in mind, tanks are designed to smash other large objects and have a tendency to get smashed themselves. They also are not the most reliable means of taking out an enemy on foot that can make use of cover or take advantage of blind spots. All it takes is a couple well placed mines or a missile and your armored wagon of death turns into an immobile pillbox your enemy can take their sweet time destroying.

Yes but to me it would look like it is allot more easy to make a few pre war tanks than a gaint battle robot.

Bingo. Tanks are obsolete in the FO universe (tactics doesn't count - the game breaks canon in lots of places).

It has nothing to do with the engine. Have you ever seen a broken down tank anywhere in FO1,2,3,NV?

I totally understand, but just imagine the fear factor the things would have.
It would scare the crap out of any given raider :shifty:

Someone has not play FO1 or FO2. NCR is rebuilding from scratch and has been rebuilding for a very long time and they aren't the only ones but NCR takes them over. They have the ability to make new buildings out of concrete and steel. FO New Vegas backs that up with the Quarry.

Also theres the Pitt but thats in the East.

Fallout Tactics has inconsistencies but they don't break canon. Not even the tank, theres nothing in the game that says it runs on gas.

Still I agree Tanks were obsolete and replaced by power armour.

OA was a sim based on a past event, the "tanks" were mining rigs jury rigged with armour and boosted power to the laser drills.

However I see no reason pro or anti as of why tanks would not be in the FO world itself.

However, it took one heavily dedicated man to restore one car in FO2, even then he needed help.
Caravans if NCR had the ability to run fleets of vehicles caravans would not be needed as they are now.
Tanks still require roads or suitable terrain to perform at their potential, craters, ruins, heat and lack of infrastructre would not lend to their long term survival imo.
I see the NCR trying to build up something but as it is more likely vertibirds, trains, power armour and robots would be the aim as the tech seems more within their reach imo.

Quimeras are quite nice, so, how is that possible that Gamebryo does not support tanks?

Really, take your pick for any number of reasons.

Maybe the NCR doesn't have the tech and resources to make working vehicles.
Maybe they can make vehicles but not tanks.
Fuel is undoubtedly very limited. Tanks use a lot of fuel.
Maybe they do have tanks... in their core region. The Mohave Front is as far East as they have gotten, and they are having supply issues as it is. There are no local facilities to manufacture anything on a tank's scale and the NCR has no way to ship a tank that far. You normally don't drive a tank from their base to a theater of operation. They would be shipped or flown there. Nobody has that kind of technology. Even the Enclave were limited to small vertibirds.
Tanks are actually a poor choice for combat in this area. They are slow, heavy and are generally used to fight other tanks, not people on foot. As mentioned, they could be easily outmaneuvered by a few people with a rocket launcher and some mines.
If the NCR were to use vehicles, small desert runners, trucks and APCs would be much more useful than a tank would be in the Mohave.

the NCR thought about having tanks, but then they just decided to put a ranger ontop of a brahmin and call it that

no, im serious, im pretty sure that the NCR thought that going through the agony of making a tank would be a bad idea since all it would take is a mini nuke and the thing would go from death machine to dead machine.

theres also the part that it seems as though china had the only operating tanks, and you know how the chinese dont like to share.

If the russian afghan war teaches us anything tanks versus high mobile enemies =bad ****.IF u were gona build anything a helicopter would be by far more beneficial.Highly mobile fire support/more difficult to bring down.versus a huge as target. Also power armour is the biggest reason why tanks are rare.If the game wasnt nerfed to make the medium and light armour users happy, the power armour would take rockets rounds and laugh lol.

A light helicopter, ya. A gunship, like an apache, is about as bad as a tank when it comes to mobility......so if they could support a troop advance, but not be the head of the spear.
