NecroMage build help?

Post » Tue Aug 07, 2012 11:41 pm

Recently I decided to make a Necromage character and have been using Conjuration,Alteration and Illusion. It sounded like a good setup but I'm getting my ass handed to me. I don't know If my build is set up right but from what I've read a necromage doesn't really have a direct attack and only uses their fallen foes as an offense. That has been extremely hard to do because I either have to rely on my companion to kill someone or use a frenzy spell. Can necromages use anything other than raising the dead ? Like bound weapons, Destruction or summons? What perks should I invest in? Also, should I become a vampire since I'm using Illusion? (I don't have dawn guard yet).

I always use Bound Swords, especially early on. It's a Conjuration spell so I see no harm in it.

Not really. Raising the dead is pretty much the whole point of a pure Necromage character.
But if you have to, use conjuration. When you kill someone with a bound weapon it usually fills a soul gem (if you have one).

Don't be a vamp unless you have DG cause you get handicapped out during the day, unless you are constantly in buildings.

Use Restoration for the turn undead. (I'd also point you to the Ritual Stone near Whiterun. Its effect could help you if there is a big group of dead people at your feet)

Dude, play however you want to play. There are no rules. I have two necromancer toons going on right now. In addition to necromancy/conjuration, they also focus on one school in destruction (fire, shock or ice). Also, use bound weapons.

When you install DG do people still attack you at stage 4? How does it change vampire gameplay?
(besides the obvious vampire lord)

I'm debating if I should get the ritual stone or just wait until I get thralls because if I switch stones my skills won't increase as fast. what do you think?

Well, I like to roleplay and follow certain rules. It really helps me connect with the world better and create a story for my character. You should try it
