Need a Fair Expectation - Buying game for my son

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:06 am

I have the PC version and love it. Read all the horror stories and thought I would have to place the game on the shelf until a patch and the opposite is true. My system is 3 years old, plays the game on high settings and very few issues; no complaints.

Now my son has a powerful PC but prefers Xbox so asked me if I would get him the game for Xbox..

Seeing all the negative threads here reminds me of what I experienced before getting my own PC copy.

Can I get a fair response on if getting the Xbox version of the game is a good idea and what I "should" know in advance?

Hearing from any who have an Xbox-360 that's 3 years old would be particularly helpful.

Thanks -T

Does your son want to play on the xbox mainly due to using the xbox 360 controller? if so im sure i read somewhere you can use the xbox controller on a pc (using software i believe) which i seen people posting links about it etc.

Best of both worlds then i would say, since the pc will eventually have mods etc unlike us xbox owners :P

He is more a Halo type player and doesn't care about mods.

I'm not asking which platform, but rather a fair expectation and advice on if Xbox-360 works well and what to expect, not do, do, general advice.

It runs great on xbox. It looks great, there are of course some bugs. I love it on my xbox. The only problems that I have personally ran into is so appearance glitches, like having no face when wearing a certain mask, and so on.

I would recommend it to absolutely anyone.

Agreed - while I am only level 18 I have yet to run into a bug that really killed gameplay or broke a quest. I say you're fine to buy as it seems that they are working to resolve them in pretty short order.

Another Halo fan! already a legend then :P

Well so far my experience has been great, i do have the texture issues like many xbox owner's but according to the sticky at the top of this forum Bethesda are in the process of sorting that problem out, there does seem to be quite a few quest bugs which can be avoided by saving often (i rotate 8 save slots) and leaving certain quests until a patch since there is literally tons of things to do anyway.

Hopefully more people post to give you a general idea.

I am about 10 hours into the game on Xbox and everything is going fine so far - no texture problems or show-stopping glitches. You will need to use an HDTV, because on standard TV's the text is tiny and parts of the screen are cut off. Also, I did clear the Xbox cache before running the game for the first time (you do this in the HDD settings screen) and I run the game off the disk. Supposedly, this helps to prevent the texture problems from occuring. My Xbox is 2-3 years old. I was also very worried about playing it on Xbox after reading the horror stories here. I'm glad that I did some reading before I fired it up so that I knew to clear the cache and run it off the disk. So far, so good!

ETA - Make sure that he hard saves and doesn't rely on Auto Save. I've read many posts where people run into a glitch and try to reload an auto save from before the glitch occurred and found that their Auto Saves were corrupted. Conversely, the ones who seemed to be able to reload and avoid the glitch were reloading from hard saves.

It seems to run better and with less texture issues on older xboxes than the newer elite ones.
I have an xbox that is 3 years old and have not seen any texture issues that I notice and it has not locked up one. And I play about 3-4 hours at a time.

I also agree with the person above me, I cleared my cache before playing and have not had any issues yet.
