Need a good location to build a fort/town

Post » Fri Aug 22, 2008 6:41 am

I am using the mod Wasteland Defence (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38049)

So, I want a good location to set up a town, preferably with the following
1. Large flat area
2. In a defendable location (Either surrounded by natural walls, such as water or mountains, or on top of a hill
3. Nothing already there
4. No dangerous enemies that will spawn inside the town

I have considered actually going and making it OUTSIDE THE MAP (Using console commands to remove the barriers) but I am not sure if the AI will work correctly in those areas, if it will, then I will use those areas, otherwise I wont.

Well, we don't know if it'll be used yet, but to the VERY far south on the map, is a boarded up train depot (Imagine to door to enter the train cart for The Pitt), possbily use this?

On this map

What marker is it, or what is the closest marker?

Either you are referring to the giant canyon that is under the bridge, full of radioactive slime and geckos, or the dried up lakebed to the north. Both are OK locations, but not perfect.

That is outside the map, if I was to pick a location outside the map, I would have TONS to choose from, I just need to know if it could cause any problems.
Anyway, although it looks like there should be a valley there, there isn't, I went and checked and its just a hill range.

Sorry, how about a floating island in the middle of Lake Mead?

Thats going a bit too far, but on top of one of the flat piers (J4 on the map I think) is a nice location. So far, the best.

I was not thinking of one big boat like Rivet City. I was thinking a city made out of rafts like the salvage platform but much bigger. Some old boats yes but nothing the size of a ship something like old fishing boats. Have it conected to the Dam with road walk ways. City made of shacks. One old boat could be where the power comes from. Other buildings with soler power pannels on the roofs. Whole thing floats on oil drums. Could have a river boat casino docked to it.

That's where I built mine actually. Ants ain't that much of a problem and there's wreckage that can actually be used as an actual barrier. Even with tweaking the spawn time to 24 hours for enemies, they rarely respawn.. which is weird, yes, but oh well.

i would suggest building it on the end of the destroyed road that would go over crescent canyon

no enemies there except under in the canyon, and there is a natural barrier behind you, being the fall into the canyon itself. unless enemies can climb rock walls, which they cant, it would be a good place to defend. maybe even go outside the map a little by building a drawbridge to the otherside that lets you cross over as an escape plan

(heck if i know if you can actually do that, but i think it would be cool)

o, how i wish i had fallout on the pc, a better computer to play games on and a better knowledge of how to add mods and things (i think the third one would not be a problem if i played games on pc's in the first place)

Colonels is a good sugestion.

The other side of cotonwood cove, that place is large and mostly empty apart from a few Fire Geckos, and has some sunken chalets you could expand on.
For that though you also have some lurks dotted around if you go that far south.

Any where above North / westside is also pretty sparse and has room.
