Need 7.1 headphone recommendations

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 7:11 am

I figured with Skyrim coming tomorrow it's time to get some good headphones to enjoy the game with.

I'm looking for USB 7.1 surround sound headphones with a mic for around $100 max (approx $80 preferred).

If anyone has ant recommendations please post them.

Thanks

I'm curious too. I already have excellent headphones that I use for music production but I think surround would be so epic for gaming. Is the difference that great?

I actually had the first version of these. They lasted for years before the ear cup snapped off; they worked far better than some of the more well-known and pricier headsets I've had. I loved them and the sound quality, as well as the vibration feedback.

I would highly recommend the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104281&Tpk=logitech%20g35. It is a tiny bit over $100, but completely worth it. Also, they have a toggle for 2.1 or 7.1 if you are not into the whole surround sound thing.

Edit: wrong link, now fixed

Forget all these 5.1/7.1 gamer headphones, as a good stereo headset will allways be better...

I have this one and it works very(!) nice. I am very pleased with both, Microphone and Sound at all.

Yeah can recommend the Logitech G35 (there is also a wireless version but too expensive). But stay away from the Razer Megadolon. There are also cheap Medusa 5.1 headsets, and they have a reason why they are so cheap XD

One Thing as Side note.
"If" you should consider a 5.1 Headset as well, please DONT go for the Roccat Kave.
Its not about the Quality there, surly not, its fine, but it is utterly heavy to wear.
If you use your headset offten, or better, long (xx hours) then that Kave thingie might not be yours.
I had that one before i swichted to the G 35 and now it feel i would wear a feather on my head. Nice feeling tho.
Just as "hint".

as a good stereo headset will always be better??

i could agree with you if you said, "stereo headsets work just fine, don't really need 5.1/7.1"

but how could it be better?

anyways, i have the logitech g930, its a slight upgrade from the g35 in it that its wireless, i believe all the other features are the same,

the 930 is 7.1 surround sound and very comfortable, it completely encompasses the ear and its wireless with an average battery life of 10 hours. (in reality i found it around 8 hours, in practice)

i grabbed my 930 for 120 and i think the g35s are around 100

I would recommend Logitech G35 Surround Sound Headset 7.1, designed for gaming, thats what i have and it is very solid, can take alot of damage without breaking. the best ive ever had and its pretty cheap

Yeah, my vote goes to the g35, great sound, can use them for hours and they are just as comfortable and the software that follows is great!

I've been using the Turtle Beach Earforce PX5's -- wireless/7.1. They're great! They don't have a super range though - but they SOUND GREAT!

I just purchased the Turtle Beach DX11 set and I am loving them... I should have gotten into these headsets years ago! They were a little over your price range though, but I got them for $99 at Best Buy.

Stereo is better unless you can actually find a set that has REAL 7.1 surround (aka not virtual as 99% of those listed above have).

I support the Logitech G35 love in this thread. First time I watched the Skyrim 2nd trailer, the bass was so deep that the whole headset was vibrating. :D

Myeeees, because that's what 'quality sound' is, muddy rumbling supercharged bass :brokencomputer: Urgh. why don't you recommend the POS 'beats' tincans while you're at it?

And in no way are the bass "muddy" or "supercharged" in that headset.

I have turtle beach X41's and you can switch between Stereo and Surround.....
Whoever said Stereo is better has ALOT to learn....

Or maybe they should just get their damn ears checked.
