Need help - is the dog dead for good?

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 9:36 pm

I was exploring in the woods, heading to a destination.
I normally walk to my destinations and get sidetracked into "discovering" any undiscovered ruin, cave, or location on the way so that I can later fast travel to it and explore it.
In one of these walks I ran into an abandoned hut from someone called Meeko.
While I was there, I was ambushed by an assassin inside of the hut.
I ran out of the hut and killed the assassin, and immediately got attacked by a passing Dragon.
Talk about problems racking up!

While I was running for cover from the dragon, a dog came out and fought the dragon.
The distraction served enough to allow me to kill the dragon, but the dragon killed the dog named "Meeko".
I went back to the hut and read a journal and it looks like Meeko belonged to the dead owner of the hut.
It also sounded that Meeko could become a follower, but Meeko is DEAD!

My questions:
1- Was Meeko the dog a potential follower?
2- If the Dragon killed him, is he killed for good or will he re-spawn?

Thanks in advance!

Meeko is a possible companion, however dog companions are extremely weak in comparison to people companions. One good hit from any attacker and they die. I dunno if they come back but I seriously doubt it.

Thanks.
The dog in Fallout 3 was an excellent pack mule, so I was hoping to get one here too. :-)

well I believe there are 2 or 3 other dog companions in the game. I read it in the wiki somewhere. So best of luck finding another one.

you can have a dog and a companion. But they are weak and get in the way a lot. And there attack forces them to jump at the target, which makes them always to be in the way. Alson, you can buy a dog outside of marketh.

I have a dog companion they can be useful and they can be down right annoying.

Since I'm am an assassin/thief, I generally stalk to kill but sometimes my dog makes that down right impossible. He barks constantly and alerts the enemies or runs ahead and blows our cover.

One time we were in a dungeon, the enemies did not see me, but saw the dog. He rushes in on five goons and then realizes he is getting hurt too much. Instead of just sitting there and healing up, he runs back towards me with his "friends" in tow, blowing my cover. Yeah, I lasted about 3 seconds before I ate the floor.

Anyways...he can die if he is hit too much by a trap or I accidentally kill him, but in combat if he gets too low he runs off, heals up and comes back. I would leave him at home but if he is there too long he goes back home.

I really wish you could put armor on the dogs and they don't bark when your in sneak mode.

In Fallout 3 you could order the dog "Wait here" at the entrance of a dungeon, and then come pick him up when you were done with combat.
Since they seem to have imported so much of the interfase from Fallout 3, I thought maybe they would also have brought that over. Now I see they didn't. :sadvaultboy:

Thank you all for the pointers.
Based on this information, I don't think I really want a dog anymore.

Ohh yeah lol, even if your not trying to sneak. The freaking dog just gets out right annoying he constantly barks. Your talking to someone but you cant hear them beacuse the dog wont shut the hell up. I forgot about that when I had a dog lol.

They did bring that over. I'm and archer/heavy and i use that all the time. i just tell Vigilance (the dog) to stay put and i take the shot. Sure he'll still bark sometimes but he'll be where i want him. if your an assassin or a thief and like CQC, you might want him sitting farther away as you move in. Its the same kind of thing i do with the horse so he doesn't go charging into comat like some leunatic and getting killed. And i feel for those that say he gets in the way, he can, but so can anyother npc in a fight especially if your an sniper... i mean marksman. Most of the time it depends on NPC placement and personal preference.

another thing that i like is the fact that you have to be careful in fights and not to end up missing your mark and putting an arrow in the back of an ally's head. it makes the precise friendly saving shot... or stab that much more satisfying.

But heres the problem with making companions/dog waiting at the entrance. A lot of dungeons have exits on the other side, which lead to items or walls. It's very annoy having to reload to the other side and then load again through the entrance just to retrieve them.

Meebo is the weakest (imo) of all the dog companions.
Vigilance is a lot better dog companion but the best one is actually Barbas the invincible pooch friend of the Clavicus.
Damn guy tanked a mammoth AND an Ancient Dragon for me what a boss.
