Need Help with 100 Repair NPCs

Post » Wed Jan 05, 2011 9:23 pm

I learned of this exploit when searching the wiki for Raul.

So, how does it work? I have a 60 Sneak character but I've also tried a Stealthboy but I always get caught (attempted with Raul and the guy at the Mojave Outpost, SW corner of the map). It should also be mentioned, however, that both had 800 or more caps on person when attempted, so does that make a difference?

Up your sneak skill, boost your agility, wear some stealth gear, read a magazine, invest more skill points and try again and again until it works

Or give up and repair items yourself.

If you are referring to the "pay Raul for repair and steal the money back" comment that I saw somewhere, it works only to a very limited degree. Seems that got immediately patched the week the game was released.

I had Sneak Skill of 100 and Luck of 10 and a stealthboy when I met Raul and could never get it to work. HOWEVER ... if I asked Raul to repair a small item which cost 20 or 30 caps to repair, I COULD pickpocket that amount from him. That was it. I tried about twenty times with various amounts over 100 and always failed.

I havent tried Raul, but I have stolen very large amounts from Major Knight at Mojave outpost. He seems to hold on to your repair money forever, I treat him like a bank. Wish he paid interest. Anyway, general info to help increase a successful pickpocket.

1. Turn off the Radio and Pip Boy Light.
2. Get your sneak up as high as possible (use a magazine if you need too)
3. Get him looking either forward or away from you. Then sneak around behind the desk to your right, behind/beside the chair.
4. Move slowly forward until you get the option to pickpocket, try to ensure you are hidden.
5. I have never use an SB for this, but i would suspect it increases your chances dramatically.
6. SAVE, Make Attempt, RELOAD, repeat until successful.

Keep trying, and be patient. Think of it as trying for a jackpot on a slot machine, you may only have a 5% chance at success. Assume it will take you 20+ attempts to succeed. I managed to take 400,000 caps from him with sneak 100, no stealthboy. Took me at least 15 tries IIRC.

I'll try the Outpost.

at level 14 get jury rig and you dont need anyone to repair your gear at all. Hmm too simple perhaps for the average bear.

exactly i agree, jury rigging , but for the op, its more hassle then its worth and cheating is kinda dumb and takes the fun out, i have mass caps, tons of weapons and ammo and hardly ever have to pay for repairs so you're playing the game wrong lol

One other thing wear as light clothing as possible.

Any armour especially over 15 weight makes it near to impossible.

Then just reload, reload, reload untill you succede, it may take 20+ attempts maybe less.

One other point the less caps he has the easier I find to pickpocket, so repiar a few items at a time then pickpocket them and repeat.
