I was gonna say Troll, but i heard you actually could acquire a troll pet in Dawnguard... an armored troll.

Is this true? If so, i will have no more use for Vigilance.

I think tamed wolves would be great, though.

Tamed wolves for a non-Companions werewolves guild would be great. (Still think a perk for the werewolf tree should have been to make wolves neutral unless attacked in human form)
Huskies that you can find in the wild like the strays would be nice too.
Tamed Skeevers could have a use, particularly in circumventing locks or deactivating traps?

I also think you should be able to name your dogs, horses, etc.

Yeah, i can totally see Jorrvaskr having some tamed wolves in the back, near the training area, just patrolling. Pretty sure we'll be getting more animal-based stuff in future updates. Have you seen "The Game Jam"?

Pets as additions to followers... great idea... but they'd need to provide multiple means of acquisition. For example, a studious mage would not have time to tame a Frostbite Spider, nor would a Barbarian have the ability to magically acquire one. Of course, there's always your horse, who can kick butt on a dragon, but die if it looks ata bear or wolf pack. :/ From an RP perspective, within the game's current mechanics, though, I can't see how it could *easily* be played. It's WAY to easy to kill your followers, for instance, when then rush in front of your full on mace power stroke. I REALLY would like the option to turn friendly fire on/off. Honestly, I haven't looked in the options, so it may be there, I've just been too busy actually playing to check. :)

Well, with Dawnguard, they did add an Armored Troll and a new breed of dog, the Husky. But it would be nice to have other kinds of animals. I see a Skeever to be more of a pet to keep in your house, or a Frostbite Spider, like the one kept in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. Not sure if the player's spouse would be fond of it though.

Biggest problem with the dog followers is they're damage is pretty low. The new armored trolls have better attack as well as the HP regen but I believe they're total health is lower than what the armored husky's can have, at least the non frost ones. The idea of animal followers is cool but they're just too weak at higher levels and are only useful as fodder. Tamed snow bears and snowy sabre cats would be cool but they're size might be an issue. Best thing for mages would be if they allowed dead thrall to work on animals/creatures minus giants and mammoths.

What I would like to see is the animals getting a special ability/perk. It would be nice if you could have your dog find a dead body in-case you lose one on the tall grass, kinda like dogmeat from FO3.

Yes!

I want to ride a bear and have a baby mudcrab pet, and they must be invincible.

Dogmeat was awesome, I can't believe Bethesda cut down the dogs' abilities in Skyrim. I want them to be able to track things, help you hunt, and find stuff in general.

This isn't an "ability" per se, but it'd be nice if dogs/wolves/other animals could "stun" your enemy like the wolves and coyotes can in Red Dead Redemption. With every bite attack, there's a chance they'll bite down on the arm or leg of their opponent and distract prevent the enemy from attacking until they shake the canine off.

How did having a pet as a hunter become something exclusive to MMOs? This is a RPG, everything that helps to create the feeling that you are in absolute control is a huge positive. They don't have have to go all out with own perks for your companion, but something like the bosmer racial ability permanently for one beast would be neat and would only benefit the game, after all, it IS a RPG, and customization is one of the most important core aspects of the genre, something Skyrim falls a little short in general.

I deleted a post - please keep the conversation civil.

I think it would be kind of cool to be able to "tame" something to use as a companion in lieu of Lydia, whose propensity for running into trap gates, while hilarious, does get grating after a while (ha, see what I did there...)

But most creatures would not be that cool to have around. Ewwww, spiders.

Great idea OP. I would like an animal to use as a follower, especially one that can find things, like dogmeat does. I also want friendly fire toned down a bit. Every time I summon a Mistman or Wraithman, Serana gets attacked by them because they are in her way during combat, constantly having to re-summon them because their attacking Serana instead of ememies. That happened in vanilla Skyrim with Lydia and the dog. So if Beth does give us a pet in future DLC, FF needs fixed please.

Dogs need to be able to be sent to a specific home to live at, the way spouses can be.
