I need more than eight hotkeys, is this a joke?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 9:14 pm

It needs more hotkeys as well as better hotkey functionality - should be able to hit one key to equip dual spells or any other combination of left+right hand. It makes combat so much clunky with such awkward controls on PC it's very irritating. It's been a frustration for me since day one, part of the reason I spend so much time on the forums complaining about things and not playing the game instead.

I completely agree with the OP, and sigh heavily at people who oppose improvements just because something is "fine for them".

Bingo.

I'd love some more hotkeys. I'm used to 1,2,3,4,5,6,r,t,f,g,q,e,z,x,c,v from playing WoW anyway.

Having a item combination grouping type hot key would be cool.

1.Ward left <> Sword right
2.Heal other L<> close wounds R
3.dual weapons grouped

and so on.. incoming mod.

mabie there is a way to change spells whit console comands? if there is, then u could add more hotkeys using autohotkeys program.
if someone can write console command which can change spell i could write autohotkey script for more hotkeys.

Favourite menu is not an option. It is a good addition, for having things you don't use all the time. But for example I'd love to go dual wield and I don't do it ONLY bc I can't hotkey 2 weapons. So I go with shield even though I never block.

First thing they need to fix is dual wield hotkeys, and then adding more than 8 hotkeys would be great.

I don't get it, you whine at a function in the game being limited, and refuse to use another function, almost like it, that is in the game? I smell troll.

When you're playing on the Wii you don't need hotkeys.

B/c you're playing Skyward Sword and thinking "I wish this game was Skyrim."

Be happy with what you got.

The logic in this thread:-

"I use this many hotkeys so therefor nobody needs more."

I'm mostly used to the frequent pausing and menu navigation so it no longer annoys me.

But I do agree with you: the game and especially combat would feel better if there was no need to pause and menu.

There will likely be mods to provide a much richer hotkey solution in the future. If you're on a PC, maybe wait for one of them?

Then get a new nose. People don't like constantly pausing the flow of combat to use Favourites. We are limited to 8 keys because the interface for the PC is a lazy console port. There's plenty of unused keys that could used for mapping. I'm sitting playing with programmable keyboard and mouse with no ability to use them. Skyrim would be even more awesome if combat we not a hybrid live/turn based thing.

Just a tip, you don't need 3 hotkeys for your weapons. All you need to do is set a hotkey for the bow (1 for example), then equip the melee weapons you want. After that, you can basically use "1" to toggle between weapons. And you also don't need resistance potions often enough in this game that you would need to hotkey them.

But that said.....key bindings and the UI in general in this game are severely lacking. Bethesda made such an amazing game, and then crapped all over it with this sorry excuse for a UI. It's kinda sad, really.

I expect a mod will fix this later on.

If I remember correctly didn't Oblivion only have 8 hot-keys too? Or was it 9?

I kind of like that even if there isn't enough hot-keys (they could've included 9 and 0 as well) you do get the benefit of the favorite menu where you can consolidate a lot more spells, potions, well anything you use a lot in battle.
Quicker than going to each sub menu all the time.

Oblivion had 8, Morrowind had 10 but you needed to hotkey lockpicks and probes to for dungeons.

In Oblivion I managed with 8 as an fighter, bow, sword, healing potion, poison, healing, summon, still left room for soultrap and extra weapon or frenzy.
As an pure mage I had to use much more because of the weakness spells and I wanted to do fire and shock against different enemies.

I use more than one bow and more than one melee weapon. I have more than 6 spells and potions.

And you swap between bows/melee weapons often during fights? I also have two bows (one standard and one enchanted), and I only break out the enchanted one for boss/dragon fights. And for that, pausing the game for two seconds before a fight isn't exactly a game-breaker.

But still....I'm hoping they bust out a patch with a PC UI soon. It would also be nice to have shift+ number keys as hotkeys as well.

Oh dont even complain at least you dont have to deal with the crapass console fav menu, they made this big [censored] deal about it being superfly and cousins with ipod but you know what oblivions wheel was better... Dont get me wrong i love LOVE skyrim but i could have designed a better control scheme and im a nobody, who ever was incharge of this specific svcksass.

The only thing that makes me sad is that I can't properly hotkey dual swords/daggers or something like that. I'd also like to make use of my macro keys that I have 18 of in this Logitech keyboard for hotkeys that would be awesome. But I guess that isn't going to happen without the Creation Kit.

I play as a Mage and i like using a variety to kill the mobs - it makes the game more interesting for me.

I have 12 numbered buttons (plus a few more) on my mouse.

Spells that i would like to use as a mage are:

3 Single target - fire, ice, shock
3 Aoe - fire, ice, shock
3 Runes - fire, ice, shock
3 Cloaks - fire, ice, shock
3 Wall - fire, ice, shock

1 Summon Atronach
1 Summon Lord
1 Reanimate Zombie

1 Heal spell
1 Shield spell

At the moment i tend to only use:

1) Single Target Fire
2) Single Target Ice
3) Single Target Shock
4) Heal
5) Wall Fire
6) Aoe Ice
7) Summon Atronach
8) Reanimate/StoneFlesh

Which means i dont end up using all the other really cool spells because i cant button them

luckily im on PC so im waiting for a MOD

Seriously, is this a joke? Only eight hotkeys? I hate pausing during combat, it ruins the heat of the moment. I need at least 15 hotkeys minimum.

Fix this by Thursday.

Said the same thing, not an exact number so to say but it's technically only 3 hot keys for combat and yeah, that's kinda lame.

Each to there own, I think 8 is enough as long as you dont spread your loadout to much.

Frankly to me this feels like another subject where the player needs to adapt to the game.

To much "if something is wrong its the games fault, never mine"
