Need some help on a skylight.

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 9:00 am

Okay so I am working on a player housing that is "built" in the side of a mountain so to speak and I want to have some natural light shine through an upper opening, but I have no idea how to do that exactly, noob with the CK here.

Here are some S/S':

Cell currently:

The hole:

I figured it would be in the sky section but that confuses me so I decided to just have it as some bright light shining through to light up the room naturally.

Thanks guys.

I'd say you put a source of light right inside that hole - but I am a noob with the CK either, so I can't give you a better advice.

Hmm I see what you mean, I'm reading over the CK wiki but it seems there is nothing directly on Spotlights. Any way to actually test/see the light come through the opening via Creation Kit?

Also any way to make it react to the day/time where as let's say it is 9:00 PM and now there is no light coming through but at 9:00 Am there is again?

Look in the Moveable Statics section, and filter for "FXAmb"... there's a lot of light beam source type effects that you can use, to give it a nice look.

Edit:

Set the light beam's external emittance to the region that the exterior of your cave is at. You can do this by double clicking on the beam in the render window, and pushing the right arrow until you see the Emittance tab, and choosing an emittance from the drop down box.

You're the greatest haha. It's looking pretty sweet. All I need to do now, that I am having trouble with anyways, is place a campfire with flames and light that emits. I am not sure if I need to place the fire and the light separately or what. I can't even seem to find the fire itself, all I found was campfireOff or something and it had no flames. Also does it come with sound or how would I place that.

In times like that, I suggest filtering for "CampFire" and select the last category in the Object Window list *All. :P Then you can narrow down where some of them are, based upon the icon it gives you.

Also, a lot of the effects/ambience stuff tends to be in Moveable Statics. There's a number of campfires in that list, anyways. If I'm not mistaken, you'll need to add any lights separate... although I think they sometimes come with sounds, or perhaps they used to? Bah... been too long since I built a campfire...

The All filter... Forgot about that, I am fresh out of tutorial 4 to be honest and I believe the devs only mentioned the All thing once so... Haha, but yeah thanks alot man, I guess I'll post some s/s' of progress and eventually get this over to the mods section if it is good enough.
