Need some help with BOSS.

Post » Mon Aug 13, 2012 1:24 am

So, I've asked this before and didn't really get any help so I'm going to ask again.

Here are the errors I'm getting with BOSS when I run it:

  • No internet connection detected. Masterlist auto-updater could not check for updates.
  • No change in recognised plugin list since last run.
  • Critical Error: ".\Skyrim\masterlist.txt" cannot be found!
Check the Troubleshooting section of the ReadMe for more information and possible solutions.
    Utility will end now.

What does this mean? The Readme doesn't exactly help as it just tells me to direct the problem I'm having to the Dev. team. Perhaps someone from the Dev. team has some insight?

I just did a fresh install of BOSS to the newest version. I've gotten this error with every single version of BOSS since launch.

As far as I know I'm not using a proxy to connect to the internet. But, just in case how can I check? I'm assuming I just open up my internet connection and hit the "Connections" tab which I've done and it doesn't have any proxy settings selected.

This won't solve the internet problem you've previously reported, but have you tried manually downloading the masterlist.txt file (https://code.google.com/p/better-oblivion-sorting-software/source/browse/data/boss-skyrim/masterlist.txt, it might take a few moments to load as it's a large file) and placing it in the BOSS\Skyrim\ directory?

No, I haven't. I didn't know it could be downloaded separately. I'm assuming I just "select all" then copy it to a .txt file then save it to where?

There should be a "View Raw File" link to the right (it's a bit hard to see). It'll send you to the text file itself. Then you can save it.

Ok, I got it. Where the hell do I save it to? Just the Skyrim folder? That's where I saved it to and I'm still getting the "Unable to find the masterlist" error.

I'm getting really frustrated here. I haven't been able to actually sit down and enjoy Skyrim lately.

Find the folder where BOSS is installed. In that folder, create a folder called Skyrim and place the masterlist in there.

Oh, my god. I think it actually [censored] worked!!!

* Note: To use BOSS v2.1.0 with Wrye Bash v299, delete, move or rename the "API" folder in the BOSS folder.
* Note: Latest BOSS thread: "http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1402404-rel-boss-for-skyrim/"
* Note: The order of plugins set by BOSS differs from their order in its masterlist, as one or more of the installed plugins is false-flagged. For more information, see False-Flagged Plugins ("file:../Docs/BOSS%20Readme.html#appendix-c").

Unrecognised Plugins
======================================

The following plugins were not found in the masterlist, and must be positioned manually, using your favourite mod manager or by using BOSS's user rules functionality. You can submit unrecognised plugins for addition to the masterlist directly from this log by clicking on a plugin and supplying a link and/or description of its contents in the panel that is displayed.

Cautious Bears with reduced Aggro Radius.esp Active

Cowardly Skeevers and Wolves.esp Active

Cloaks - PC Only.esp Active

Does that seem like it worked? Because I have no f'n clue. Also, it says some mods have to be added to the list manually. How do I do that?

Also, thank you very much for helping me. I've been fighting with this for a long time. I really appreciate it.

Also, I'm in the middle of running the Python package again...maybe it'll work.

Yup, it worked. There's two ways to manually order the unrecognized mods (conversely, you can also report them to the BOSS thread (with a link to the mod's page) and they'll eventually be added to the main list). Anyways, method one involves using BOSS's built-in User List editor (there should be a button on the main GUI for BOSS). I found the interface to be fairly intuitive. Option two involves using a mod manager (Wrye Bash, Nexus Mod Manager) to re-order those mods.

Yes it is working but read the BOSS suggestions as you STILL have 4 cloak esp's active and you should make a bashed patch.

Just curious if anyone can confirm if Morrowloot and Economics of Skyrim are compatible?

Proxies are typically used in enterprise environments. If you're using BOSS on a computer at home, you likely won't be using a proxy.

Can you test to see if BOSS works on another computer with an Internet connection (if you've got another on the same network that would be ideal)?
