I need a team

First off, I know nothing about making mods, but I do know this mod will be a huge undertaking that will be about the depth of the Midas Magic mod, which has launched its creator into modding stardom. Now onto the meat of this mod.

Ever played Deus Ex Human Revolution? This mod is based on adding in a new dungeon and quest inspired by the controversial augmentations of the Deus Ex universe. My plan is it will be a Dwemer ruin, specifically of a group of Dwemers outcast by the other Dwarves for their attempts merge flesh and machinery. At the end of the dungeon (the place will have opened up into an enormous cave by now) you will fight the greatest success the Dwemer had, reanimating a dragon using machinery. After defeating the dragon its soul will be split between two magic fires on the far wall, activating the flesh forge. The Flesh Forge will allow you to swap out your man or mer's extremeties for augmented upgrades containing their own weapons and attribute boosts. from here the mod will come in two flavors: standard, and MACHINA DEUS (machine God) mode. in regular you can get the augmentatoins as wearable objects, in MD mode your arms are permanently removed, only allowing you to upgrade your augmentations. The augments need to work with all clothing and armor in the game as well as letting you use other weapons in the game as opposed to being locked to your augmented weapons. If you are interested contact me via either PM or my email- XenophobicProductions@yahoo.com and we'll discuss exact details and brainstorm it. Thanks for your time

Would you start a covering letter with: First off, I know nothing about X

Suggest different approach. :flamethrower:

First off, I know nothing about making mods,
I can tell you right now that most people will stop reading after that.

I tried to do this exact same thing when Oblivion first came out. Wanted to create a city, knew nothing about anything about mods, and recruited a team of people who did know what they were doing to help me.

Long story short, I tried to make them do all the work, and while they were very friendly and helpful about it, we got next to nothing done because I didn't know what I was doing, and meanwhile everyone who came across the mod ridiculed me for going about things this way, and I deserved it. Ended up scrapping the whole thing and left the forums and the modding scene for a while because I was so upset.

The moral of my story is: Learn to mod. Just like anything else in life, it takes practice and no one is going to want to do everything for you, especially if you don't know the slightest thing about it yourself.

It's good to see the mod enthusiast community learn these lessons during the Oblivion run. After Morrowind it seemed like many expected the mod community to magically make things appear. And while some still seem to take actual modders for granted, that attitude seems to be dwindling.

I think people misunderstood my intent, I want someone to tutor me on how I would go about this.

The problem is the language, and I don't even know what scripting idiosyncrasies will be in the new Creation Engine (and the Gamebryo one had a metric ton from my experience), the design restrictions, limitations, and a whole host of other issues are unknown right now.

Even for people who understand the previous kits.

You might want to create a few mods and fiddle around, once the full kit is released, before embarking on something epic.

Seriously. Just so (GODDAMNIT, DIE, NVIDIA, STOP CRASHING FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! THREE TIMES IN LESS THAN THREE MINUTES. Sorry. I despise the 285 drivers and they... uh... make me rage. Even more than the 280 ones) you don't ... uh... rage.

BUGGY goddamned drivers. (They crashed thrice while writing this post, and didn't crash in 5 hours of Skyrim playing)

You are probaly right but in the end that would be terribly short sighted on their part atleast in my very humble opinion, instead of not reading maybe encourage him to slow it down and start small and work his up to something big learn the ropes as they say, atleast that is what i would suggest to the OP because i have been around these forums for a long time now and even the best of them had to start somewhere because remember folks encouragent is a good for the modding community in the long run.

Ditto the above. No one woke up one morning, fired up the PC and just modded a masterpiece, everyone learned. However ickle baby steps first before trying to get a team together. Teams come and go, members drop in and out and you absolutely have to learn to be the core of the mod, able to plod on without any help most of the time. Play the game until its boring boring boring, you will be able to mod it better if you know it back to front. There will be little progress until the new CS comes out, so learn and read everything on the board. Plan your mod and plan to go it alone. A team is a benefit, but its rare.

90 percent of Mesogea is my own effort, with the 10 percent being broken down into 8 percent third party help or granting of modded items already made for the game by others with 2 percent being team generated stuff. No detriment to the team but people dont have much time to give. Teams will start big and get smaller as the years go on.

Best of luck.

Yeah, I'll second this post.
Also, maybe it's just me but I'm not sure "xenophobic productions" (as suggested by the email address) is a nice name for a modding team, I don't know

As others have pointed out, your start isn't great. Neither is the way you're approaching the whole thing.

A more successful approach is usual "I'm making ..., and I've got ... done. However, I don't have the skill to do ..., if anyone wants to lend a hand then I would be very grateful. Otherwise I'm will just have to learn how to ... myself."

ATM it reads "I've got this idea, I need someone to make it for me while I (possibly) learn by watching them at work.". No, nobody starts off as great modders, but the vast majority of us are self-taught. We didn't need the tutorials at TES Alliance, or those on the CS Wiki (though they are there and are very good, hint). We just used the information available to us in the CS and the CS Wiki to learn. Very little hand-holding required.

There isn't a CK or a CK wiki out yet, so some of my points are premature, but then perhaps so is this thread.

Always approach a mod as if you're the only person that will work on it, because 99% of the time that's exactly what'll happen.

So basically what you are saying is...you have an idea and you want us to be your slaves so that you could rise to stardom just like the creator of Midas Magic Mod?
