Neloth: one of the most amusing characters in Skyrim?

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 11:40 pm

Just went into Nchardak with Neloth and some of his commentary was some of the funniest I have heard in a while.

Just as I am about to open the black book Neloth says: "Don't worry, I'll be taking careful notes about what happens to you." Gee, thanks Neloth. Good to know my death will go to the advancement of knowledge!

Then just as I am leaving for Apocrypha, Neloth says "If you see Hermeus Mora tell him hello for me" as if he and HM were bestest buddies. I just cracked up.

I find his entire pompous self-regard to be quite hilarious. I also like how the voice actor captures that upper crust disdain for their inferiors "Are we done? I thought so." Great job with the voice acting.

He and Divayth Fyr were my favorite NPCs from Morrowind. Doing a quest with him was awesome.

I thought that he was even better at this quest where you... go blind. ;)

Dunmer = very long lifespans. Hundreds of years.
Telvanni Mage = MUCH longer lifespans. Possibly thousands of years.

When he tests a spell on you, he says "This shouldn't hurt a bit, but if it does, try not to scream too loudly - my ears are sensitive."

If I remember right elves in TES have thousand year lifespans, most of them die before that from disease or just being stabbed with a sword but it's not that far fetched. Plus as a powerful mage as someone said they can live even longer.

Ah, yes. Classic. And then when he cures you, it is not because he cares about your health, he just wants you to bathe.

A number of Dunmer that we meet in the Fourth Era vividly remember the Red Year and at least part of the Third Era. Avrusa Sarethi(?), an ordinary farmer, used to have a store in Vivec City, and she doesn't seem especially old.

The apothecary at Tel Mithryn tells you that she's an old woman, and that she remembers the Red Year from when she was a little girl. She then says that when she was a little girl, Neloth was an old man.

I love him he is the Perfect mage in my eyes. He's kind of how my Dunmer mage is Not afraid to break the boundaries totally unpredictable and takes skooma so he understands the elements better.

Reminded me a lot of Nicol Williamson's portrayal of Merlin from the movie Excalibur.

...Alas, he is my Nerevarine incarnate as I envisioned him in my head, only Dunmer, and Telvanni.
He is such a smug bastard, I can't help but give props. He is bro status.

Wait I haven't played morrowind at all but I have read there was a dark elf named neloth that was in morrowind. So I'm wondering is this the same person I read about.

Sorry morrowind is the only elder scrolls game I haven't played.

I have to go back and look at that. I don't recall him being that. I will have to reread the journal.

Well, the journal says that he was, but really, even one of the girls in the College is from House Telvanni. I'd just assume the writer of the book was being dramatic because they were being slaughtered and hidding out in a basemant. I imagine if Neloth had to describe it he'd simply say they were from a weaker corner and the reports of devestation to House Telvanni were greatly exagurated by the writer.
