I've never messed with a CMS

Hey guys. I was wondering if I could get all of the web designer and developer's best practices/standards for creating a design that goes well with a CMS and also what to expect when using a CMS. I've never used one before, but I'm going to have to soon and I'd like to know what to expect. ^.^ Especially designing with a CMS in mind.

EDIT: I just realized I ask a lot of questions to the community. D: I'm sorry, guys. I just enjoy and learn from reading the discussions you guys give.

It's going to depend on which CMS you're talking about. They all work a little differently. In general, though, you're going to want to think in terms of templates and the content fragments and widgets that fit into those templates rather than arbitrary pages.

Wordpress, to be specific. I just wasn't sure if there were general guidelines.
